Whoa whoa.. Smith is having a bad year and we don't need him at this point, but the guy has had a long very impressive career and is reportedly a class act. Seems like a bit of an excessive reaction. I don't wish him harm in any way. I just don't see how he can help us in ANY way.

Who do the Astros replace first in the bullpen,Bielak or Smith? Omg, seriously? Smith is total garbage. I would pay someone to take his sorry ass off of our roster. He is a pathetic loser that has no business in MLB. Save that venom for Dusty, pal.

He IS a pathetic loser and total garbage. Why waste time with him when we could be developing the young pitchers.

I hadn't even realized Chas hit another HR. That guy is all or nothing isn't he? He's a modern day Rob Deer!

Nothing against Straw but I wouldn’t mind him coming off the bench as a speed guy. His inability to read pitchers ironically makes him a starter more than anything.

On paper so far, Chas is the better all-around player from a pure production standpoint, but he's also never showed this type of power before. Is he legitimately a 25+ HR guy or this is a rookie season flash in the pan kind of thing? And is the Straw we've seen the last month or so the real Straw finally or will he regress? It's hard to know. At the moment I think we need Straw's OBP skills more than Chas' all-or-nothing approach if you have to prioritize playing time, but I hope they can continue to find ways to work Chas into a decent amount of playing time. As the season progresses Brantley will likely need some more off days so it would be good to keep Chas warmed up as much as possible.

He just hacks.

He just hacks. He's got a 60 point difference in his OBP and AVG, so if he hit .260-.280 he'd have a respectable OBP. The problem is the number of strikeouts. In a 600 plate appearance season he'd be looking at about 180 strikeouts. But, right now he's worth 113 OPS+ and Runs Created (13% above average). If he were to sustain that while playing above-average defense in the OF, would you be satisfied despite potentially 180 strikeouts?

Save that venom for Dusty, pal. he thinks Dusty should be manager of the year and be inducted into the Hall of Fame. I wouldn't knock it, at this point in the season Baker and Kapler are most likely the leading candidates for the award.

If Gattis had played above-average defense in the OF, would you have been satisified with him as a full-time player?

He is a better overall hitter than Rob Deer. He is a very good outfielder, with great speed, plus having the power. What he needs is to cut down on the K's. I am happy with Straw's improvement. bit. I think Chas could turn out to be the better overall player.

He has vastly improved over the last 45 days. If he was the player he was 2 months ago and beforehand; then yes, he was strictly bench material
