Cole had a bad game but the blame for this loss is squarely on the offense.......Alex Bregman looked like shit...karla wasn't much better. I would hope Tucker replaces Reddick in the lineup but I wouldn't bet on it. Bregman is taking too many pitches he should hit and is killing them. Leaving RISP continues........Jose's last at bat was his worst of the post season. George seems to be heating up.....a few feet to the right and that double was a game tying home run.

Tomorrow's game is a must win or we can forget it.

Today was actually the must win for me.  You can lose game #1 with Greinke (like the NY series) as you have Cole and Verlander still going 2 each at worst.  But you can't lose game #1 with Cole and expect to rebound.  I'm out for the rest of the playoffs on this one.

We lost game #1 against the Yankees 2019 and Dodgers 2017 and came back both times.  Three times may be too much to ask for.  I hope they prove me wrong but I'm done.

My takeaways  tonight......

* Very disappointing loss. Shame Cole had to loose his mojo in G1 of the WS. The lack of K's even early on, was a sign something was up.

* Alvarez had a good day at the plate. That's huge, if we can get him to contribute anywhere near what he was doing prior to the post season, this will contribute greatly to what has generally been a weak middle part of the lineup.

* The Nationals were desperate tonight, and shot their wad pitching wise. Spending the #1 and #3 starter, and blowing through all 3 of their best relievers. I truly beleive this is going to bite them in the ass later on.

* Not a great hitting night, but we did break into the double digit in hits for the first time in about 10 games. A very positive sign.

* What the hell is going on with Bregman. I can't remember him looking this badly in a calendar week the whole season. And a note to the home crowd..... PLEEZ stop chanting "MVP". The guy is batting a .100 in his past 7 games. It's now more a sarcastic taunt.

* And finally kudos again to the bullpen tonight. They are the best positive suprise for us during the post season

Agreed.........he has been in the post-season.

I don't want to hear one word from any of them about the deal with Taubman being a distraction......Taubman didn't have any AB's tonight.

Well friends, I'm super disappointed after this game 1 loss. We squandered so many opportunities to score runs. Eventually this terrible hitting with RISP has to swing in our favor. A few positive takeaways from this game:

- We lost game 1 of the ALCS & game 1 of the WS in 2017. We typically play better when we are in a hole.
- Springer and Alvarez both seem to be hitting the ball better. I know Alvarez really hurt is in that bases loaded situation but he was on base 3 times.
- Cole was bound to have a down game with the streak he was on. Glad to get it out of the way early in the series so he can be dominant his next start.
- The bullpen of Harris and Smith continues to look fantastic.

JV is going to put this team on his back and help us win game 2. I don't think our bats will quite break out yet, but we score enough to win game 2. Astros win 5-1.

Ok time to put our big boy pants on and show everyone why we got here.  The Nationals are no joke, the last 100 games of the year they were just 1 game behind us record wise so we ain't playing chumps like we were with the Yankees.  These boys are real.  Time for us to get real and stop thinking these guys are going to just kiss the ring.
