So, winning 107 games and bein in game 7 of the WS is evidence that players don't need to know how to execute a bunt? I'm saying they did so many things right this season that expecting them all to lay down a perfect bunt is nit-picking. My point is that any major league player should know how to bunt when the situation calls for it. How many times do we see guys try to bunt and can't get the bunt down? It is evident that no time is spent in that area and it can hurt, especially in close games. How many DP's have we grounded into when a well-placed bunt could have gotten a baserunner into position to score a much needed run only to see a DP ball that killed any chance to score? Close games in the post season can be decided by one team's ability to advance runners better than the opponent. In this series. the Nats have done that more than once while we haven't done it at all. Nats hit to the opposite field.....we don't. We were in an exaggerated shift last night when Rendon executed a perfect hit thrpugh where Altuve would normally play. Given the same situation., more than likely our hitter would have pulled the ball into the shift for any easy out. Rendon hit the ball through the vacated right side and they scored their first run. Expecting highly-paid major leaguers to be able to execute the basic fundamentals of the game of which bunting is one, is not nit-picking. Not being able to execute a bunt is a lack of preparation on the team's part.

We don't expect them ALL to...but a couple wouldn't hurt. I prefer doubles and triples. Much more effective. Our guys can't do those right now, either

I can't roll my eyes hard enough at you two. We won 107 games, we are one game away from winning it all, and all you guys are doing is knit-picking. Geez. Who can bunt on our team? I'll wait for your answer. Greinke.

Who can bunt on our team? I'll wait for your answer. Our catchers can bunt. Not intentionally. It's just their full swings looking like a bunt.

He unfortunately won't get the chance tonight. I am serious when I say this..., if we needed a successful sacrifice bunt late in the game, I would pinch hit Greinke for the majority of the position players on the team.

We don't expect them ALL to...but a couple wouldn't hurt. I prefer doubles and triples. Much more effective. Hitting the ball (rather than bunting) with men on base is a better recipe for winning games. Although sacrificing an out to advance a runner increases the chance of scoring a single run, it dramatically decreases the chance of putting up a crooked number. That's why baseball has pretty much abandoned the bunt.
That said, in the bottom of the ninth with score tied and a leadoff double, I'd sell my soul for a successful sac bunt to advance the runner to third.

i wish we had a count of how many runs we failed to score or games we lost when a well-placed bunt would have made a difference. I think ego gets in the way when it comes to calling for a bunt and that is unfortunate.

From Reddit:
Our Astros who art in Houston,
117 wins to thy name.
Thy hits please come,
Thy ship be won,
In 2019 as it was in 2017.
Give us this day with a Greinke win.
And forgive us for our Taubman,
As we forgive those who hacked against us.
And lead us not into strikeouts,
But deliver us from Scherzer and Soto.
For thine is the Springer, and the Altuve, and the Bregman,
In Astros history for ever and ever.
Amen.
