I’d give it to Odorizzi if he went 6 or 7, which he rarely if ever does. Jones’s “triple” was the most important hit of the night. Without it, the A’s might’ve been just a game behind the Astros. Yeah I was just saying he was up for consideration.. He was pulled out after 81 pitches.... Hopefully next time he can go six I think that’s my biggest gripe with him. He almost never goes deep into a game. I’m tired of the “didn’t have a spring training” excuse.

He almost never goes deep into a game. I’m tired of the “didn’t have a spring training” excuse. It's not like our other pitchers go deep in the games... 81 pitches is pretty early to pull... What do you think was the primary cause? Are we starting to employ the strategy of: we have a seemingly deep bullpen, so common practice will be pull after 5 innings? To give the opposing hitters a new look?

He gave us 5 good innings and left with a good lead. I think he could have at least started the 6th, but I'm not upset with them pulling him at that time. He gets his confidence up some and can hopefully carry that over to his next start. Like Garcia, he tends to hit a wall around the 6th inning or 3rd time through the order.

I put a ton of thought into this one. Congrats Mr. Jones on being Abregmanfan's player of the Game. How's ya neck?

That excuse along with the mechanics being off has grown stale. I'm going to be really surprised going forward if we see more than two games in a week, where the starters pitch into the 7th inning. Heck, we might be lucky to see one. Astros are going the way of the Tampa Bay pitching strategy. And with the current rotation that might not be a bad idea.

Everyone raves about his spin rate, but the last time I watched him pitch, I didn't see anything that was that impressive. Maton had that Jason Castro (after a SO) look after he gave up a HR: Like Why Me? I hate that look, it says whiner, not winner. Montero, to me, had more impressive stuff. But I will give Maton more time, to see what impressed Click so much.

If they both maximize their strengths and limit their weaknesses, they could both be solid players. But they'll never be more than overall solid players because their weaknesses are too glaring. Straw certainly has the potential to be a .280/.375 hitter with good OF defense and 50 SBs if everything goes right. But he'll never have enough power to make him much more than an average overall offensive player. Maton could be a good reliever who maintains really high K rates. But nothing in his history says that he'll ever limit the amount of hits he gives up enough to truly be dominant. But, you need solid players. Especially when they're cheap.

From what I observed and from Click's interview, he is a combo of Luhnow and Tampa Bay. I need to find the link, But I watched him interviewed, and answer questions about the trade deadline moves. Specifically to the Straw trade. Like Luhnow, he values OBP and SLG. Pitching wise he is more bullpen.

Good to go. Thanks for asking. Put some bacitracin ointment or some other antibiotic salve. Don't want to get infected.

I didn't watch the game either. MLB Network makes me so sad. Cable listing indicated they would show either Rockies @ Astros or Yankees @ Royals. I got the 'or' ... rotten bastards.
I did follow on Gameday. Diaz went 3 for 3 with a double. Plus a walk. Excellent!

Diaz 2 years/12M Diaz has one last arb this winter. He's currently making $3MM. I think his performance has been making a case that he could easily be an everyday player on just about any team. I reckon he'll make at least $5MM in arb, maybe more. Would AAV $6MM per for two years get the job done? I think that's not too far off but it will probably take a bit more. JMO

Hard to guess what he might get through arb but if we estimate $5MM, a guaranteed $12MM total for two years would be like $5MM then $7MM. I think he could make more than $7MM in 2023 as a FA, but guaranteed money speaks loudly. So maybe. He's not a Boras client, so that bodes well. But my gut says it'll probably take an extra couple of million.

Diaz is one of the most valuable players we have due to his being able to play multiple positions and be a productive hitter. 2yrs/$12 million might do it. I'd go as high as $8 million a year.

I hope abregmanfan will forgive me for stating the obvious. August 14: Jake Meyers2 for 4 (both homers) with 5 RBI. He's the second player in @astros history to have a multi-homer game within his first 7 career games, joining SS Orlando Miller, who hit 2 homers in his 3rd career game on July 10, 1994 at CHC.
