Man. I thought the game was tonight. If you didn't see the pink, you'd have thought is was a replay.

Astros went way too easy on Chavez and Mann, but I'm probably nitpicking.

Pitching matchups vs. LAA:
Nice McCullers Jr. (5-1) vs Heaney (1-2) Cole (4-1) vs Barria (3-1) Verlander (4-2) vs Richards (4-1)

Altuve goes ZERO for the weekend. I hope he saved it for the Angels.....We miss Ohtani as he is pitching today. Great to see Gattis showing signs of coming around. Entire team other than Altuve and Jake had a good series.

Well we go back on the road still hot. Maybe we can build up a little lead on the Angels.

Altuve should be fine hitting on the road again. moreover, the Angels have lost more games in Anaheim than they've won. Their heavy reliance on the bullpen is starting to take its toll. I like the Astros' chances of taking that series.

So, anyone want to rearrange your list of players to cut...change it to Marisnick on top instead of Gattis?

So, anyone want to rearrange your list of players to cut...change it to Marisnick on top instead of Gattis? It's looking that way now. Gonzalez is not a player who needs to be cut, but his playing time needs to be reduced. Easy way to do that is bring up Tyler White or JD Davis. No need for an 8 man bullpen at this point. Astros lowest OPS players: Marisnick .434 Gattis .633 Gonzalez .636 Fisher .686 Gurriel .712 I only ever get concerned about players who dip under .750. Gurriel, I don't worry about because he is hitting a lot of lasers that just get caught due to good defensive positioning and sometimes bad luck. He's really hitting like more of an .800 guy. Fisher is improving so let's ride with that and see how far he goes. He may clear the .750 threshold in a few weeks' time. Marwin is overused and is being asked to hit in too many unfavorable matchups. Over his career, he does better against RHP than LHP whereas for White and Davis, it's the opposite. An easy way to reduce Marwin's playing time is to play him primarily vs RHP while letting White or Davis take the other starts. Marwin's OPS would tend to head toward the .750 mark that way and we'd get great production vs LHP. Gattis has probably earned himself at least another few weeks with the team, and might earn himself the rest of the season if he can keep up even 75% of what we've seen in the past couple games. Still early to tell, but a couple weeks from now, we'll have enough data to look back and see what, if anything, he's doing differently to get these improved results. Marisnick shouldn't be on the team. He's a relic of earlier versions of the Astros. Time for Kemp or Davis to replace him. summary: Drop Sipp for White and Marisnick for Davis. Net effect is that pitching is just as good as before; outfield defense and base stealing drops somewhat but is more than made up for an improvement in team OPS of at least 20 points. Current team OPS is .747 and going to .767 would make it the 5th best offense in baseball. Any team with the #1 pitching staff and #5 offense is easily a WS contender.

We discussed on the old board during the off season how, just based on expected WAR for this season, the Astros pitching staff looked on paper like a Top 25 Pitching Staff of All Time. I thought it was excessively optimistic to think that that paper calculation would translate into reality, but so far, it's looking like it is. Though it's looking excessively optimistic the bats will live up to their preseason projections

Though it's looking excessively optimistic the bats will live up to their preseason projectionsIt's true -- those off season WAR estimates would have led us to believe the Astros would have the #1 or #2 offense in MLB this year. However, a couple of internal promotions probably bring the Astros up to the #5 offense from where they are currently at #9. If the team then goes ahead and trades for a good offensive outfielder, then perhaps the Astros become the #4 offense in baseball. That is all assuming that no one substantially improves over their current numbers, including Altuve. If they do, then possibly the Astros do in fact realize those off season predictions. #1 pitching and #4 offense would be a great combination to go into the playoffs with.

At any rate it was a good win and a good series, but I'll be impressed when we play this well against a club that doesn't suck tailpipe

It’s safe to say that Evan Gattis was the “Player of the Series”.

It appears Gattis has responded positively to calls for his replacement. I don't mind it if a player can hit his way out of the dog house.

40 games of suck versus 2 of doing well. Gattis still concerns me a lot.

Of course it could. Good job! another star is born for Marshall. It lacks value because of his spamming posts with just 1 number in them.
