Is Robel the worst player in baseball with this many ABs? Surely, right? We claimed Jacob Wilson off waivers and sent him to Sugar Land........Bring him up. He has to be better than Robel who sucks in every aspect of the game.

Why in God’s name is Stanek in? Because Dusty refuses to allow a reliever to pitch two innings. I wanted Graveman to stay in, but, Stanek was actually good and got them out with no problem.

He said he hopes silly people aren’t sitting at home saying Mike should have run it out, because Mike has been dealing with injury Eh, that's an excuse. If you're too hurt to run you shouldn't be on the field and playing in the OF. Wow, for once I think you’re being too harsh.

That 7th inning was pressure packed largely because of his inexcusable error. He can't be worse than Robel, and, we can assume he's better or we wouldn't have claimed him. Why keep him in Sugar Land while we run a dud like Robel out there? When you have to bat him 7th in the lineup and still win, you are very fortunate.

One hell of a job by our pitchers tonight. Shutting out the Dodgers in Dodger Stadium while the fools in the stadium booed and threw stuff on the field was fantastic. Lance McCullers keeps proving why he is the ace of the rotation. He took it to the Dodgers and was never rattled, even when errors were made. Correa cost him extra pitches with his error that should have been a DP.

Are they really using stanek to close, instead of graveman? Dusty used Graveman in the eighth which was actually a good choice. I just looked at part of the order he was due to face.... 3, 4, and 5. If he had thrown a completely clean inning, that would leave 6, 7, and 8 for the ninth. Even if he faced an extra batter that would leave 7, 8, and 9. As it turned out, Graveman faced five batters: 3~7. So that left 8, 9, and 1. Not as easy as it might have been, but not too horrible. Stanek was money in the ninth, retiring the side in order. All's well that ends well, right?

Yesterday, I feel intentionally asleep at 7 PM, and told my wife beforehand, to wake me up at 9:00.... so a little power nap...Therefore, I would have no problem watching the game in it's entirety. However, plan failed, b/c my wife fell asleep too before game started. She too was tired from being at the pool all day. Thomasj13 Strategy < Father Time.

You have to give Dusty credit cause he could've just gone through the motions They should combine saves and holds like they do in fantasy baseball. I think they should junk saves and go with a new stat hold rate (holds / hold opportunities). And metricize it so it's weighted by which hitters in the order were faced

Hold a 3 run lead for one inning and you have “earned” a “save.” Really? Some managers are obsessed with giving their “closer” his precious save when the guy who just pitched the 8th inning has blown away the opposition. Many games have been lost due to this strategy.

Players will make mistakes. Coaches will make mistakes. Good luck and bad luck happen with plenty of things happening that is out of their control. But hustling is always in your control. If it was a blowout, fine. But this is playoff atmosphere baseball (that you said yourself) in a close game in hostile territory. I have nothing against Brantley at all. But if he can't run, he needs to be resting. Let Chas or Meyers play.

It doesn't capture the leverage and importance (or lack thereof) of the individual situations. Saves are a topic worthy of their own thread. Give Dusty credit for not following the standard script? Absolutely. And it was easy this time because his decision worked out successfully. But we should have the courage to give him credit for decisions like this on those occasions where it doesn't go to plan. You and I both know if this had a different outcome, a certain someone would have crucified Dusty.

Also, a hold in the eighth doesn't necessarily create a save opportunity in the ninth. Lets say you're on the road and have a three run lead in the middle of the eighth. Your pitcher not only gets a hold but also no runs score. Then your offense scores a pair of runs in the top of the ninth. With a 5-run lead, there is no save opportunity. This shit can get complicated, eh?

The low class trash that kept throwing things on the field. In the post-game, Stanek reported thrown hamburgers, full cups of beer, and more. The guys in the bullpen were called everything but human beings. No surprise to me. LA is known for low class fans right along with NY garbage.

I admit to being concerned with Graveman being pulled in favor of Stanek for the 9th. Visions of Stanek walking a couple and then giving up a game-tying home run kept entering my thoughts.LOL As it was, Stanek was spot on and nailed it down. Dusty made the right moves. I was more worried about Taylor getting Muncy to get out of the 7th than anything else in the game. I have always thought the part of the lineup due up should have a lot to do with which pitcher to use. Dusty has used Pressly in non-save situations and Pressly was never as good as when the game was on the line. He used him in a Sunday game against the Rangers with a four run lead and made him unavailable in the next game when he was needed. I'm all for paternity leave for players, but, they shouldn't last for a week.

I admit to being concerned with Graveman being pulled in favor of Stanek for the 9th. Managers don't have the luxury of being able to work their best pitchers into the ground and have them magically recover overnight. Yes, they need to do what's necessary to win today, but they also have to have one eye on tomorrow. Graveman threw nineteen pitches in the eighth and the last two outs were with two men on base. Plenty of stress. Add another twelve to fifteen pitches in the ninth and he'd almost certainly be unavailable tonight.
