There's no excuse for lack of effort. Players will make mistakes. Coaches will make mistakes. Good luck and bad luck happen with plenty of things happening that is out of their control. But hustling is always in your control. If it was a blowout, fine. But this is playoff atmosphere baseball (that you said yourself) in a close game in hostile territory. I have nothing against Brantley at all. But if he can't run, he needs to be resting. Let Chas or Meyers play. Chas or Meyers wouldn’t have given us a lead. Maybe maybe not.

Give me a break. If Jose had done that you'd be cursing his entire family. You mean if Altuve botched that one double play instead of Correa. That too. Although I do feel Jose could have at least made the play at 2B. He tried to barehand and still be able to make a throw.

Carlos was rightfully charged with the error. Jose's mistake was trying to barehand the throw. Had Carlos handled the ball and given Jose a decent toss, we had a DP. As it was, we got no outs and Lance had to throw extra pitches. That DP being botched is on Carlos Correa. All that was on Jose last night was his being picked off first base. Getting two doubles from Maldy was certainly unexpected. Yuli being scratched and the useless Robel being in the lineup could have been a disaster. Diaz did a good job at first base. Robel is always an error waiting to happen plus an automatic out at the plate. That home run from Yordan took the pressure off our relievers. I don't see how anyone can bash Brantley for not running full speed to first base considering his ankle problem. Had you rather he bust his ass trying to beat out what was probably a sure out, re-injure the ankle, and go on the IL or do what he did and stay in the lineup. If Jose had done the same damn thing, you would have been fine with it. Since it wasn't, Brantley was dragging his ass.

No, if his ankle is that fragile, I'd rather him rest completely and not make it worse. We rested Yuli with a stiff neck....we could rest Brantley with a sore ankle. And Jose always hustles. I don't have that concern for him.

He played through the injury...which I admire him for doing....and Brantley is playing through this, probably because it is a big series with the Dodgers. I imagine he told Dusty he could play or he would have been kept out of the lineup. I don't consider what Brantley did to be a lack of hustle any more than I did with Jose when he played injured.

I don't blame the player for wanting to play thru it. The coaching staff has to rein them in.

I liked Dusty’s response to the post-game question about what Blake Taylor showed him by coming back from down 3-0 to striking out Muncy. Dusty said, “It shows me he wants to stay here.” Maybe there is yet hope for Dusty getting over his reliance on Raley in crucial situations.

It’s extra surprising considering Raley is allowed to suck almost every outing.

When Baez is activated, hopefully that means we get rid of Raley so Dusty has no decision to make. I think Baez is supposed to have good numbers against lefties.
