MLBTR is reporting that the Angels are considering shutting Trout down for the rest of the season. Shutting him down? The man has been out for 3 1/2 months with “calf discomfort.” How much more shut down can you get?
I have grown weary of the “Mike Trout, greatest baseball player of all time” bs. Consider this. Since the beginning of the 2017 season... and with 31 regular season games remaining for Oakland this season.... Jed Lowrie has played in 439 regular season games and 4 playoff games.... and that includes playing in only 9 games in 2019 and no games in 2020. From 2017-present Trout has played in 477 games.
Trout played in fewer games than Jed Lowrie in 2017, 2018 and again in 2021. The only seasons in which Trout played more games than Lowrie were 2019 when Lowrie played in only 9 games and 2020 when Lowrie did not play at all.
Greatest of all time my ass! Trout can’t... or won’t.... stay on the field any more than one of the most injured players of all time.

Imagine owing him $300 million dollars. Those who are clamoring for Correa to be given a blank check for 8 - 10 years should take note.

This is a very odd thread.
This is really the first season that has been torpedoed by injuries for Trout. 2020 was a short season for everyone. Aside from that, he's played at least 134 games in all but 2017 and his first callup in 2011.
He's almost reached DiMaggio in WAR with about 2,000 fewer plate appearances. He is clearly one of the greatest players in history.

Trout played in more games (114) in 2017 than Correa (109). Trout played in more games in 2018 (140) than Correa (110). Trout played in more games (134) in 2019 than Correa (75). Correa played in more games (58) than Trout in 2020 (53). So far this season Correa has played in 120 games and Trout has played in 36. Correa played in fewer games in 2017 (109) and 2018 (110) than Lowrie (153) in 2017 and 2018 (157). This is Correa’s walk year. Of course he is going to get himself in the best shape ever and do everything possible to stay on the field this season because he will be a FA this offseason! Prior to this season; however, from 2017 - 2020 Correa played in fewer games (352) than Trout (441). I’ve said it before. Once Carlos has his $300+ million contract in hand, I predict he returns to being that player who misses at least 40-50 games a year. Any team that gives Carlos $300+ million for 8-10 years will regret it long before the contract expires. Just like the Mets will regret the Lindor contract long before it expires.... the Angels will regret the Trout contract.... and likely the Padres will regret the Tatis Jr contract.

I would be for giving him fewer years with more money per year if he would accept it, but, I think he wants a long-term deal.

Since it’s okay for Judge to bitch about Altuve’s MVP, is it okay for Bregman to do the same about Trout’s? Bregman showed up pretty much everyday back in ‘19, but Trout took another vacation the last 6 weeks of the season.

get called out on your mongoloidism, then say it was “sarcasm”. Maybe it's both? A Mongoloid attempt at sarcasm would explain this: I said I agree with offering him a 6yr/$180 million contract and would go no higher than 7yrs/$110-120 million. If he would accept a contract with fewer years on it, we should give him more per year so we aren't tied down to a long term deal. Hmmm, what's a GM to do? Give him $180 million for shorter contract or $120 million for the longer one? Decisions, decisions.

get called out on your mongoloidism, then say it was “sarcasm”. Oh, Polly......since several posters have suggested basically the same deal that I mentioned, are they also "mongoloids" or am I still the only one? Being the excellent researcher you think you are, did you miss the proposal another poster made of giving Carlos a 3yr/$120 million deal for the same reason I mentioned? There were a couple of others, but, I'm sure you overlooked those as well since you only amuse yourself by trying to attack me. You keep trying so hard to look intelligent and still come up empty. Your master will be disappointed, Polly.

No, just you. It's not just that post that classifies you. It's the fact that you're a mongoloid.

The guy had about the best first decade in baseball that I can think of off the top of my head. He's for sure an all-time great already. His injuries have all mostly been minor until this year. Since becoming a full-time starter and the 2020 season, he averaged 145 games a year. People that aren't a fan tend to harp on his injuries, but when he's as good as he is and getting paid what he is, why would the Angels risk worth health issues with him if they're not competitive? That's not how you treat an expensive investment.
