I wonder if Raley would be more useful without the new rule that a reliever must face three batters? If he could he a true lefty specialist would he be more valuable? I think so.

We are in luck in the 8th. Our 4-31 leadoff man leads off the inning.

God bless Meyers because we all knew Altuve was going to be out.

God bless Meyers because we all knew Altuve was going to be out. He finished the night 0-5 and 4-32, but, have no fear, Dusty will have him right back in the leadoff spot tomorrow.

I’m actually more worried about Altuve now than I was last season. I don’t know what the issue is with him. Last year, they blamed family stress. Whatever it is, he may need time off to get right because that OBP is falling, and he’s not helping the offense much at all.

Whatever it is, he needs to be moved down in the lineup. If he's injured, he doesn't need to be playing. If he has vision problems, he needs his eyes examined. He is WAY off.

Pressly gets them in the 9th and we get a big 6-3 win to move 5.5 games ahead of the A's. Big home runs from Correa and Tucker, plus a big RBI hit from Meyers to drive in the 6th run in the 9th.

For him to be so far from .300 a second year in a row causes concern. Whatever the coaches changed in him has made him a worse hitter.

Whatever the coaches changed in him has made him a worse hitter. His lack of plate discipline is between his ears. He has gone from winning batting titles to what we see now. Trying to be a dead pull hitter who goes for a home run on each swing is creating most of his problems. It is almost like he is out to prove he can hit the ball to left field no matter where the pitch is. He lunges at pitches several inches outside and hits weak ground balls or popups. The opposition doesn't need a fielder on the right side of second base other than the first baseman to take throws on one of his ground balls. I don't understand why he can't see that he is better when he hits the ball to all fields. Dusty refusing to drop him down in the lineup shows he just refuses to make changes no matter how much they are needed. Right now, Jose is one of the last guys we should have leading off. When was the last time he got on base in his first AB?

I would gladly prefer Altuve to hit .315 with 13 bombs to what he has now.

They don't need him to be a power hitter. If he is going to lead off, he needs to be the guy with one of the highest OBP's in the lineup. Right now, he has the lowest. We have Alvarez, Correa, and Tucker to be the main power hitters. Altuve needs to be the guy getting on base....not trying to pull the ball and hit home runs in every AB. If management is encouraging him to go for home runs, they are responsible for his problems. He hasn't hit a home run since July and only drove in 3 runs the entire month of August. He has been the least productive hitter in our lineup. If Dusty can't see that Jose does not need to be the lead off hitter, he's blind.

I'm confident management doesn't coach Altuve how to hit. He's had the green light to do whatever he wants in the batters box since he became a batting champ. It's customary for him to try to fix it with a big home-run cut when he's scuffling at the plate so bad cause that's the easiest way to approach it, and it requires the least discipline

But, I think Astros MGT. definitely had a hand in Altuve's hitting approach. He went from being a true hitter to a power hitter. I still think he is awesome, but he has abandoned trying to be the batting champ.

I still think he is awesome, but he has abandoned trying to be the batting champ. His problems began when he stopped trying to be the batting champion and started trying to be the team leader in home runs. I don't know if management encouraged him to do it or if it was his own decision. Whatever inspired it has created his problems. Becoming a dead pull hitter has lead to an increased number of popups and weak ground balls.
