This is why I think we're still in a good place:
“People always refer to the window, (say) the window may be closing,” he said. “Listen, when I’m here, the window’s always going to be open.” - Jim Crane

When Crane became owner many on here were upfront and said Crane was bad. Maybe most of those are gone now. All had to do with something with a business outside of Baseball. I think he was right in how he handled that business and it is none of my business as I don't work for him and never did. They said he would never spend the Money and as far as I can see Crane is interested in winning and not just being an owner like I think some of the owners approach the game. Win just enough games to keep the fans around. I think he had done a good job with Luhnow and now Click as GM and is willing to do what is necessary that makes sense to put a Top Tier Team on the Field.

You trust the same people who dubbed Straw as the heir apparent to Springer? Things change, son. They felt they had better and got Magic Maton instead. Straw is a GG finalist, we're not any worse at CF and have maybe a good reliever for cheap, and Springer...got money. I call it a win for everybody.

2018 "Oh no, Keuchel and Morton both left. The window is closing! 2019 "Oh no, Cole is gone...and to the YANKEES! The window is closing!!" 2020 "Oh no, Springer is headed to Toronto, the window is closing!!!" 2021 "CORREA IS THE CAPTAIN YOU CAN'T LET HIM GO OR THE WINDOW WILL CLOSE!!!!!!!"
No, the window isn't closing. This entire organization was constructed with the purpose of making sure the window never really closes. We just got to within 2 wins of a trophy despite losing Cole, Verlander, Springer, and McCullers for various reasons. The pitching staff that dominated was missing all that, and was led by Garica, Framber and Urquidy, who came out of nowhere and were signed for pennies, and the bullpen was thrown together at the deadline by dealing spare parts.
This is still "Tampa Bay but with money." This team is going to be just fine.

You trust the same people who dubbed Straw as the heir apparent to Springer? Case in point: All-Star Springer goes to Toronto. Oh no, what shall we do!? The Astros got a 3.7 WAR performance from a 12th round pick in Myles Straw, sold him at his peak value for a key bullpen upgrade that we have for two more years (and a good catching prospect), and didn't miss a beat because Jake Meyers, a 13th round pick, is an even better prospect. And Chas McCormick was a 21st round pick. This organization's ability to find talent where other people don't is borderline magic. That's why people don't need to fear the window closing.

TBH he played up to it. 3.7 WAR is borderline All-Star level. That's very near what Michael Bourne did for us for several years.

The defensive instincts were there but for baserunning it wasn’t.

Straw 2nd half was .276/.350/.346. He's doesn't have power; whereas, Meyers and Chas do have some. Therefore, Click traded him for something he values, a reliever with high spin rate. I didn't like the trade initially, because I like Straw a lot, but now I understand it.

He was just getting his feet wet; taking over in CF, for the departed Springer. Initially he was doing horrible, but we all witnessed his progression/huge improvement.. Give a little slack, Corch Jr.

Give a little slack, Corch Jr. Nah, you’ve complained about his tendency to stick around first base too often as well. I already admitted his defense got really good. All in all, it worked out because Maton became the fireman reliever of the team. I hope they keep Graveman.

But I was not faulting Straw.

Talk about dodging a bullet
Jackie Bradley Jr. hit .163/.236/.261 this past season. It's a shocker, but he exercised his $9 million player option for the 2022 season.

Was it deception in order to build up his value? Either way, like I said, I would’ve liked him to have gotten on base a little more and steal more. I would’ve also liked him to bat 9th or even 1st more often. The return for him is why I like Click.
