So his 7 steals are the most he has had since 2018 before he started having the knee issues. He's currently 7/8. I don't want or expect to try and be some 40+ SB guy, but I think he could be a 30/20 player for another year or two if he's smart with his baserunning.

While his defense hasn't been great this year, his offense continues to be very strong. At the moment he should be considered the 6th best offensive player in the AL. He's 6th in Offensive WAR, and 6th in OPS and OPS+.
It would be nice to see him extend this little hot streak for Seattle and get his AVG/OBP up to around .290/.370 or so, but it's hard to complain too much. He's currently on pace for:
32 HR 91 Runs 13 SB despite only being on pace for about 133 Games.

I take it all back. After a 1-10 series in Oakland we need him to get going again. He stopped taking pitches and he stopped making hard contact.

So his defensive metrics continue to drop very low. He's currently at -9 Defensive Runs Saved and -.7 dWAR. For having a very good year offensively (and basestealing), his defense is really dragging his overall value down. While it hasn't been a major issue overall, I'd be surprised if the FO is not taking notice and a little concerned. I wonder if there would be any consideration to moving him to LF?
Granted his arm strength would not be good for an OF, but I would have to believe his range would be at least a little above-average.

Altuve is a tremendous hitter, but I never thought his defense was that great.

This year is currently the worst year by far. If he was even just an average defensive player this year, he'd be at a 4+ WAR on pace for 6+.

Only this group would be discussing moving the all star 2nd baseman off of 2nd base cuz hes just not good enough, damn it.

He's still an elite hitter all things considered, and I don't have a major concern with him at 2B right now. I'm just wondering if, with as concerned about defense as this team is (the main reason why Mancini isn't playing more 1B or LF), do we think they would consider trying something else with him? It's just a discussion point.

He just needs to stop trying to hit a 5-run HR every at-bat.

On the plus side, he should be due for a huge surge, right?

On the plus side, he should be due for a huge surge, right? He is a gamer, and has proven he shows up in the playoffs. I have a feeling he is gonna heat up in the LCS and carry the offense.

He just needs to stop trying to hit a 5-run HR every at-bat. It’s disappointing that the approach looks the exact same when he struggles mightily. You’d figure he’d try bunting for a hit or slapping a single to right field, but no, just swing for a homer on a pitch near his face.

maybe the rest of the team could try to pick him up the way he does for them all year.

On the plus side, he should be due for a huge surge, right? I like to often think of the law averages evens things out. I don't think there are any issues of mechanics, injury, or mental focus. Baseball's a funny game. He might go 5-5 Tuesday.
