I purchased the ad-free option for the forum. We will have no ads displayed each month until we hit 50000 page views. After 50000, you'll see ads until the new month. This will only cost me $6/mo.


The next level we could purchase is 100k views for $11-12 per month. I'll watch and see how long 50k lasts us, and then we can consider whether to increase to the next level. In the 2 days since I bought it, we've used about 6000 page views, just to give you some idea how long the 50k might last each month.

I don't no mind paying the $6.00/mo, but if we want to get more ad free time than that, I'll set up a PayPal donation thingy if anyone wants to/can contribute.

Those of you who were having intrusive ads, let me know if this helps.

Y'all let me know your thoughts.

PS. I did not pay to block ads for guests, so if you're not signed in you will still see ads.

Since May 20 at 2:30 pm, we've used 7,637 page views, just to give you some idea how many we use. One of you mathematicians can extrapolate that out to a month.

I've been keeping an eye on the page views. It looks like we're going to be considered a fairly heavy usage forum. Since I started this thread, we have done the following (the 19355 views was the pro-rated allotment we had since I bought the thing mid month):



So, probably tomorrow or sooner we'll be back to having ads until the first of the month.

At that point, we need to decide as a group how important ad-free is to us, and what level of ad-free we want to buy monthly.

You worry too much. If we all pay a buck or two it's easy. Heck, I can PayPal you $30 or so to cover the next couple months if you want. This is small potatoes for most people here I think.

I'm not worried, son. I'm taking care of bidness. I said from the beginning that I wasn't going to make many decisions regarding the board without consent of the members. I'm giving everyone the option to give opinions and to decide what amount of coverage we need. I'm already paying for the 50k a month, and you're right...it's nothing but 2 diet cokes. But, I want the involvement of the users on this stuff. Especially if we decide we need some of the more expensive options.

I am also researching our usage, so we can make an informed decision on what we need (if anything)

I chipped in $10 to Bilasport (Reddit MLB feed) and would do the same here. You can check their site out to see how they can collect Paypal and CC to make it easy.

It's around 3.,000 per 24 hours so we'd need to start about the 100,000/mo. level.

Ok. The ad free page views just reset to 50000 on June 1. We will see how it goes.

As of right now, we've used 46,084/50,000 ad free views. So, we need approximately twice the amount we have in order to cover a full month.

I'll post up a donation link tonight after work. If enough donate, I'll order the expanded coverage.

After doing research, I found that I won’t need to take donations. Anyone who is so inclined can just directly buy ad-free views for the forum as a whole. It will be added to my dashboard. If someone purchases the monthly thing, it will kick in when the monthly thing I’m already paying for expires. I think it’s $7/mo for 50000.

However, if no one wants to commit to a monthly payment, I can do the PayPal donation thing for 1-time donations and, when enough is donated, make the purchase myself. That can be done at My PayPal

The last option, is that anyone who wants to can make a 1-time purchase of an ad-free month.

Finally, the last option will always be to just let the ads remain on the forum, if no one wants to pay to remove them. We will have ads back after tonight, until the end of June.
