You don't think being the 7th best pitcher in the league is ace-like? His health issues are a problem, but the guy is an excellent pitcher the majority of the time. And one of our top all-time postseason pitchers. 2.83 ERA over 57 innings so far. To me he is like Springer or Correa. An all-star when healthy. The difference is that he actually wants to be an Astro. He's got a spot on my team for a long time.

Passan on Sunday night Baseball: “The Astros are fully committed to acquiring Josh Bell at the Deadline, internally they’ve prepared an offer that meets the nationals asking price and the most prominent voices in the organization are ready to offer it to the nationals.” Sounds good.

Per Rosenthal:
"The Rays, following their usual practice, are another club considering all angles. For example, at a time when they need offense, they might actually trade a hitter such as first baseman Ji-Man Choi. The Astros, according to sources, are showing interest in Choi as a possible alternative to their apparent No. 1 choice at first, the Nationals’ Josh Bell. Bell, a native of Irving, Texas, a suburb of Dallas, told me over the weekend that he wouldn’t mind a trade to Houston. Bell and his wife, Lia, welcomed their first child, a daughter named Noa, in December. Houston is about a 3 1/2-hour drive from Dallas, and Bell’s parents would be in better position to help with the baby if he spent the final few months of the season with the Astros. He is a potential free agent."

Choi is a fine player, but he's just not that impact bat I would hope for.

Forgot to mention that Rosenthal also said that the price on Contreras is high, and so the Astros are looking at Christian Vazquez (Boston).

Choi is a fine player, but he's just not that impact bat I would hope for. Yeah, alone he wouldn't be a huge get. But if they decided to get a solid outfielder and Choi, instead of just Bell alone, maybe that could help.

I’m shocked he was that low. He looked like an ace at times. Needed more IP. More games played didn’t affect Trout in 2019.

Phillies looking for starting pitching.
How about Odorizzi for Brad Hand?
Sorry BFAM, I had to do it.

Who do we target for an OF upgrade? Is it time to bring up Leon?

Meyers arm, or lack thereof, scares me in CF. Was it that weak pre-injury? It looks like a second baseman's arm strength. But I am more wanting to trade for Bryan Reynolds. He sure is not putting up the numbers in 2022 but give it time. Look at last year and look at his minor numbers. And he is controllable for two more years. You get Bell, Reynolds and Chavez on this team. Plus a good reliever. And WS Champs!!! Pulling for the Cardinals to get Soto. The Yankees can get Montas.

It's encouraging that Bell said he'd like to be in Houston. Maybe they could work out a deal and extend him for a few years.

Well, if asking prices are ridiculous I'd rather do nothing than get screwed. It's not like this team can't win. And there hasn't been much movement at all really.

He has been a streaky hitter throughout his minor league and major league career.

If the thought is to trade for Choi, I don’t see the point unless they want to platoon him at 1B.

With the lack of average production in CF and 1B, they need to make a move. Plus, we don’t know when Tucker will figure it out. They're not going to upgrade significantly at catcher. They just wont. Maldonado will play in 85% of the games. I'd like Bell (and to extend him), but Yuli has actually been heating up recently. He's actually hitting .300 over the last month (albeit not with enough power). OF help would be nice, but I think we can get by, especially if Diaz has found his bat again. And who knows, maybe Brantley will get cortisoned up and be able to play in the postseason. I fully expect they'll do something, but hopefully not out of some false desperation.

He is having a good year. I’d do that. Addresses both teams' needs. Their salaries are basically the same. They're both pending FAs. I would not do this. The price for SP has been very high and Odorizzi has been pretty good aside from a few bad outings. Brad Hand has a nice ERA but the underlying numbers tell a different tale; strikeout rate is just 7.7, a career-worst since becoming a reliever, also posting a career-worst 4.6 BB/9, and he literally hasn't given up a homer all year (0.0% HR/FB). The 1.99 ERA is nice bit his xFIP is 4.76. He's a nuclear meltdown waiting to happen. I want nothing to do with him.
