With the lack of average production in CF and 1B, they need to make a move. Plus, we don’t know when Tucker will figure it out. They're not going to upgrade significantly at catcher. They just wont. Maldonado will play in 85% of the games. I'd like Bell (and to extend him), but Yuli has actually been heating up recently. He's actually hitting .300 over the last month (albeit not with enough power). OF help would be nice, but I think we can get by, especially if Diaz has found his bat again. And who knows, maybe Brantley will get cortisoned up and be able to play in the postseason. I fully expect they'll do something, but hopefully not out of some false desperation. I just don't see it with Brantley. It would be nice to have Diaz be the swiss army knife. We need another OF without a doubt. |

If the thought is to trade for Choi, I don’t see the point unless they want to platoon him at 1B. Maybe that is what they want to do. A Choi/Yuli platoon isn't a terrible idea. Yuli is posting a solid 113 wRC+ and a sub-10% strikeout rate against LHP. Meanwhile Choi's numbers against RHP are very nice; 125 wRC+, 15% walk rate. If the price on Bell is too high, that platoon could work, with the guy not starting being ready to PH and replace the guy who did start late in the game depending on matchups. |

However I keep seeing talk that we are talking Choi and Vasquez. Which I wouldn’t be too upset with, as long as the asking price isn’t terrible.

Bell and Vazquez would be an A+ waiver deadline. The closer they get to Tuesday, the Nats may lower the price.

The rare weeks he’s not on the IL, Lance is dicey at best. One game he can look like Verlander and the next he looks like Jason Jennings. Wasn't he 7th in CY voting last year and dominant in the ALDS? |

That Hader trade is a shock but I love it. Rogers is really underrated and should be a solid closer. By downgrading to him, they picked up three other useful pieces, two of them MLB ready.

Addresses both teams' needs. Their salaries are basically the same. They're both pending FAs. I would not do this. The price for SP has been very high and Odorizzi has been pretty good aside from a few bad outings. Brad Hand has a nice ERA but the underlying numbers tell a different tale; strikeout rate is just 7.7, a career-worst since becoming a reliever, also posting a career-worst 4.6 BB/9, and he literally hasn't given up a homer all year (0.0% HR/FB). The 1.99 ERA is nice bit his xFIP is 4.76. He's a nuclear meltdown waiting to happen. I want nothing to do with him. I think the same can be said for Odorizzi, he is pitching better than his stuff....Plus Odorizzi is too emotional to be trusted ...With McCullers coming back, he will be bumped to long inning relief.....Do the Astros then need Odor as long inning reliever or LHP Hand that has closing experience....so he can be the 7th or 8th inning pitcher. |
