Good to see Diaz hitting the ball finally. Yanier did a great job behind the plate and picked up a couple hits. I hope Dusty was paying attention. Time to start phasing Yanier into the starting catcher role and Maldonado into the wise old backup role. |

Unless he gets hurt or Diaz starts hitting like Piazza, I don't see Maldonado catching less than 90+ games. I'd be fine with that, honestly. That would lead a good 50-60 games for Diaz to catch. If Dusty would DH him (while sprinkling in a couple games a month spelling people at 1B or in LF) regularly, then he should have no problem getting 450 PA this year and a real chance to develop. But I feel like, barring injury, Maldonado will be catching like 120 games. |
