Thought someone else was going to do it since we lost last night? Hunter Brown, RHP: 3.76 ERA, 3.06 xFIP, 10.2 K/9, 3.0 BB/9 = VS = Luis Castillo, RHP: 3.05 ERA, 3.68 xFIP, 10.2 K/9, 2.5 BB/9 Key pieces vs. Castillo: Kyle Tucker is 2-for-3 against him, Pena and Meyers are both 1-for-3. Abreu, Bregman, and Dubon are the only guys with 5+ AB against him and Castillo has worked all of them. Interesting because these are similar pitchers. The ERA vs. xFIP being roughly flip-flopped sent me digging: Brown's GB% is far higher (a good 15% or so) than Castillo's yet he is allowing homers at a much higher rate. Brown is the type of pitcher that JV is, so some long balls are going to happen, but you wouldn't expect quite as many. Castillo's BAbip is also notably lower than normal, so he could be due for some regression. But he's still a great pitcher and against this patchwork lineup...yikes. Brown better be nearly perfect. Yeah the change from Diaz made no sense at the time, and it's been a disaster sense.
Dusty even said a rookie catcher shouldn't catch a rookie pitcher and then Diaz has caught France and others since. So dumb.
