Brown deserved better. Can Cintron be fired and we work on some better approaches at the plate? This is unacceptable situational hitting.

I didn't realize this until I just looked it up; Jon Singleton's OBP is more than twice Jose Abreu's. Literally gets on base more than twice as often. You cannot continue to play Abreu and claim to be all about winning. He has got to go, period. If you didn’t get the memo, they both suck. Either bring up Loperfido (HRs and Ks) or sign Brandon Belt. Either put Abreu on the DL or drop Singleton

Both Singleton and Chas watched a called third strike. I keep thinking we’ve hit rock bottom, yet it gets worse.

At Belt's age and looking at his projections, that's about what you could reasonably expect out of him TBH.

For the time being though put Abreu on the DL, and promote Loperfido or sign Belt

That’s great, guys. Swing at the first pitch you see from a new pitcher. Who runs this ship?

This team has to shake up things on offense. Get rid of the hitting coaches, bring Loperfido up, or change up the batting order. Something.

White Sox, Rockies, and Marlins the only worse records. Could not have predicted anything close to this start.

Meyers had a good night, had a double, has been 15% better than average at the plate, but let's pinch-hit for him with the catcher who is 1-for-11 against the pitcher because LeFtY rIgThY mAtChUpS. Are we sure it's not just Dusty in an Espada mask?

On the plus side, good to see Brown bounce back. If we continue to get good starting pitching things will come around.
Still just 3.5 games back.

I was pretty hard on Dusty last year (mostly because I grew tired of his "I know better than anyone else" attitude when questioned on things), but I don't put too much of this on the manager yet. YET. Looking at the issues, how much of this should be on Espada?
1. No hitting with RISP. Part fluke and part bad approaches. Is this Espada or the hitting coach or both? I think part of this is flukey and will balance out, but either way I don't know of many managers getting in to hitting nitty gritty. That's Cintron and Snitker. Espada's job is to try and put the best team out there he can with the players he has. You can make the case that Meyers or Singleton deserve more playing time, but mostly he has put our best team out there. He isn't doing much load management and he isn't flip flopping the lineup all over the place. Bregman has stunk, Chas has mostly stunk, and Abreu has been atrocious. But those are guys expected to be everyday starters/contributors.
2. Recent starting pitching. It isn't Espada's fault that the starters have gotten pummeled several times this year causing him to overuse the bullpen. Our rotation had question marks, but nobody could have foresaw our best pitcher being Blanco since everybody else is basically hurt except for Javier. This should improve as Verlander and Framber get back.
3. Bullpen usage. There have been a few question marks here, but he has sort of been stuck. He's had to dive into the bullpen early and often because of the starters, and our top-3 relievers have mostly been garbage. My main question is where is Ryan Pressly recently?
4. Pinch-hitting/match-ups. This is where Espada has been the most questionable to me. I haven't liked some of his substitutions.
I think the season-opening sweep by the Yankees threw everything out of whack big time. We had some bad luck and some bad bullpen work that led to that sweep, and I believe we still haven't recovered from that. Then it got compounded by Framber going down and us having a horrible run of the starters getting smoked. The offense being inconsistent obviously hasn't helped also.

Astros need some type of infusion/spark. I think they need to sign a FA, who has the leadership qualities. Someone that can at least provide average production, but mainly get this team/teammates inspired to win.
