Couple of better swings for Abreu but no luck. Chas hit it well too.

Really need Yordan to get out of this funk. Really need the pitching to not lose the game in the first inning.

My least favorite part of this recent era is the infatuation with worshipping of the vets. Abreu is done. Get some balls and cut ties. Bregman is terrible this year. He can’t hit 4th anymore.

Our reality right now is that if we were to go on a 10 game win streak by some freak of nature, we would still only be a mediocre team and we would have a 500 record. Some levers have to be pulled, some buttons pushed, or some asses need to be kicked. Something needs to be done to wake this team up.

Abreu wouldn’t be terrible if his BA was 4x better than it is now. .270 is pretty decent, although for about 1B making $20M AAV, you would hope for better. But BA isn’t everything, right? So .270 (4x better than he is currently hitting) is passable so long as his SLG is really good. 1B should be a power hitter, right? Okay looking at his SLG, wow, if it was only at least 6x better than it is now, then …..

Abreu being old before he got here was the problem. Bregman has made it hard for me to care if he stays or goes.

People act like Espada was some panacea to cure this team of its Dusty ills, but there you go - he’s got a guy with no homers batting cleanup.

Do you think Dusty would have done something differently? If Bregman got gas from a Chipotle burrito, it was on Dusty so I’d better not hear that Espada is completely exonerated from a 7-17 start.

I don't think any manager would move a key player for years (an all-star level player even just last year) out of his normal place in the lineup in the first month of the season. (Abreu is a different story, and he has been moved down to 8th.) Dusty would get nagged primarily because he had better players riding the bench in favor of washed up veterans. Then when questioned about it, he would throw egotistical hissy fits. But for Espada, who replaces Bregman? Who replaces Abreu (outside of Singleton who isn't much of an improvement)?
You can't blame the manager for the lack of depth or the struggling veterans. At some point the FO needs to make a move and change the players the manager has to work with.
Espada can't hit with RISP. He can't not use the supposed best relievers he has that keep blowing leads. He can't pull ace starting pitching prospects out of our weak farm system while we're dealing with all of the injuries to our top pitchers.
Espada may very well be a terrible manager when it's all said and done, but I'm not sure what he could realistically do at this point...or who could do any better.
I've been a fan of Crane for what he has done for this organization and city, and I think Brown is fine, but at this point it's on them to give Espada more to work with. (Or, make some trades, retool, and see what happens.)
