Springer, Verlander, and Cole make it also.

I love George Springer and am happy for him, but, does he deserve it based on what he has done this season? Probably not. I think it is an injustice that Charlie Morton is not going to be on this team. The one rule regarding the selection of the All Star team that needs to be done away with is that every team must have at least one player represented on the team. Guys who should be there end up getting screwed because of this rule. It is also a joke that Blake Snell is not on the pitching staff. But, no matter how teams are selected, there will always be some players left off who should be on the team.

Well Springer isn't having a BAD year, just not great. But he's a big name and the fan vote had him in 4th place. The reserves are at least partly voted on the players so he had that going for him too.
I think Morton makes it still.

Oh, I like George and am happy for him, but,l was surprised he made the team and he probably was, too. I voted for him and Bregman. In addition to Morton, McHugh is deserving but will not get any consideration.

You know it's a pretty strong testament to Altuve's appeal that he was top vote getter despite the normal ballot stuffers on each coast.

Altuve has what, I believe, no other Astros player has had before.... Legit superstar reputation. I loved Bagwell and Biggio, and I loved Glenn Davis as a kid, and Nolan Ryan, etc.
But, outside of maybe Nolan Ryan as he got older, none of those guys were ever completely nationally known and rooted for on a regular basis.

Biggio and Bagwell were both superstars and didn't get the recognition Altuve is getting because the Astros never won a WS while they were here and usually got eliminated by the Braves in the playoffs. Drayton McLane was too damb cheap to spend money to get all the players needed to win the WS. Crane will spend the money to win.

I met Drayton McLane once at a game, but all his comments were why I wasn't loading up on concessions.

Last year.I prepared, and is now lost on old board, the results of a spreadsheet (which I can't find either) of an overall statistical analysis of how bad our team representatives have performed in the ASG 1962-2017.
I predict that this year will be the one where those fortunes are reversed.

I met Drayton McLane once at a game, but all his comments were why I wasn't loading up on concessions. Drayton always made me want to vomit by claiming they were doing all they could to "make us a champion" while he was dumping salaries and refusing to add players needed to win. He got rid of Billy Wagner because he had the guts to speak out about how they didn't make the playoffs because Drayton wouldn't approve deals to get players they needed. He got rid of Mike Hampton because he didn't want to pay him. If he was still the owner, we would still be without a WS title.

But I think it's more Altuve's size and style of play. In an era where power and sabermetrics rule the day, he's a big anomaly. A fun and effective one. Plus he seems to be genuinely honest and likeable...which is rarer and rarer with professional athletes these days.

At this point, McHugh probably should have gone ahead of Morton. Snell definitely deserves to go, but, Morton and McHugh do, too

Snell just hit the DL with shoulder fatigue. It's 10 days so they could be resting him .. he said he didn't feel well after he threw yesterday. If it's serious .. shoulder trouble is not what you want
