The Bluejays new closer came into the game against the Red Sox tonight in the10th inning with the game tied......He pitched 2/3 of an inningl allowed 5 earned runs, on 4 hits. One of the hits was a three-run homer by Mitch Mooreland and another was a two-run shot by Jackie Bradley Jr. No word on whether he punched himself in the face this time.

4.2 innings pitched for Toronto, 7 Runs, 8 Hits, 3 HRs, 0-1 Record. The good news is he is 1 for 1 in saves. Jays will soon learn that if it's a non save situation then you don't put Giles near a phone to be called in.

Hes perfect in saves situations, so that fulfills Saints criteria for being a shut down closer. Lmao.

Meanwhile, our wifebeater blew his first game already too. This deal is going to end up not helping anybody. Still popping off about things you know nothing about, I see. First, Osuna is NOT mazrried and never has been, Second, Rondon blew the the game with two outs in t he 8th by throwing a BP pitch to Healy that he hit for a home run to tie the game. You also forgot the bases loaded NO out situation when tge Astros failed to sciore, The only game of the series that the pitching cost us was game one when Verlander got lit p. We got good jobs from the other three when the ioffense tanked, This deal will help the Astros in the long run. Osuna did not cost us the game,.,.Rondon and the oiffense did Osuna has not been convicted of anything

If giving up the winning run isn't blowing it, I don't know what is. I seem to recall you blaming Harris, Devo, and Giles for blowing ties.

I'm sure he'll likely end up being mediocre (provided he gets to stay on the team), but if anybody thinks we significantly upgraded....good luck.

I don’t think anyone thought we significantly upgraded. I think it was more about getting rid of a melted down reliever for someone who could be effective.

In losing David Paulino I doubt anyone here would panic. Who knows what will come of Héctor Pérez? I’m not saying we should be thrilled about the move to get Osuna. I feel the move had two purposes: get a proven closer with some upside and save some face on the Giles trade that ended up being unsuccessful. Giles proved his worth in the postseason last year and made a fool of both himself and the team this season. To get rid of Giles, it seemed like the only one available was a guy with legal baggage in Osuna. If you would call it a lateral move, I wouldn’t disagree with you. I’d counter that it was a slightly above lateral move. The question remains whether or not it was worth the PR hit. Just because I’ve said in the past that I wouldn’t have minded Bonds as our LF didn’t necessarily mean that I was in love with this trade. People like Bonds are a different kind of villain.

Hector Perez had some moments last year but has had a tough time against AA hitters. Paulino has a big arm, a glass body, and marbles in his head. Giles was not coming back, he is/was a knuckle head. So we got what we could for him and got another spot cleared up on the 40 man roster. If it turns out that he is guilty and the Astros cut him then the pr mess will go away, if he is found innocent then we make out. The bottom line is that you can put lip stick on a pig but all you have is a pig.

Perez....who may not be the quality prospect he was thought to be prior to this season...was the price Luhnow paid in order to convince Toronto to accept two knuckleheads in exchange for one.

I don't know that any of those guys would have done anything special, but they were still commodities we gave up. Giles was an all-star caliber closer before the postseason last year.

Yeah, but when the lights shone brightest, where was Giles? He was healthy enough for Hinch to use, but he shied away from doing so. That spoke volumes to me. The regular season is fine and dandy, but even pre-roids Barry Bonds had that knock against him. He was money for the Pirates and absent in the playoffs. Like I said, I don’t personally like Roberto Osuna, but I understand the move. I think the move was also partly made to keep him away from other teams. Time will tell if trying to salvage the Giles trade will end up paying dividends.
