So much for Joe Smith being the answer. This game is over. I had to leave for work right after the Trout HR. Thought for sure it was a lost cause too. What a surprise when I read the box score at lunch. Your boy White needs a day off along with Bregman.

I was actually glad to see him *not* in today's opening lineup. I really think he needs to work on some things in the batting cages before facing live opposing pitchers. His pitch selection has gotten poorer over the past couple of weeks (as has Bregman's) and I'm not sure what it is exactly. Maybe it has to do with: When you're in that elite range of .900 to 1.000 OPS, you start pressuring yourself to maintain that level of production, so you become unwilling to take walks and start trying to hit (nearly) everything that is thrown your way. That results in swinging at bad pitches and either striking out or hitting the ball weakly for an out.
The pivotal AB in today's game was probably White's. By all rights, the Angels should have turned the DP and the game would have gone to the 9th with the Angels ahead 5-4. The 2-2 pitch that Tyler hit to 3B should have been flared out into RF, but instead he tried to pull the ball and that nearly ended the inning. All of the Astros hitters this year have run into their share of tough luck (stinging liners that are caught due to great defensive play) but today the luck was on the Astros' side and the almost-for-sure DP ended up putting the Astros ahead.

looking at those AL East standings, I don't think I can ever remember a team finishing 60 games out of first place.
