I would rather see us call up Riley Ferrell than see Smith giving up bombs. Riley has not been lights out in the minors...and I am huge Riley fan.

I would let the ball boy pitch before I send Smith out there again.

If I’m counting correctly and Corpus doesn’t have any rainouts, Whitley should come off suspension after the Hooks’ May 27th game vs Tulsa.

We need someone to join McCullers....I was banking on Martes.... I’m more bummed about Armenteros than I am Martes. To me Armenteros was the sneaky/trendy prospect....Martes was to be the can't miss/5 star....I am very disappointed in Martes...nothing is a sure thing...Whitley and Tucker can be busts.....I am more confident in Whitely, but who really knows.

I noticed today that Tyler White has made big improvements in his strikeout rate this year. HE's now had about 100 plate appearances in AAA, and struck out only 10 times.
Previously, he always averaged around 24% K rate regardless of whether he was hitting in the majors or minors.
I'm not sure if this is just a fluke -- for example, maybe he's just run into some really bad opposing pitchers to start this season -- or if there is something substantive to this development. I'm hoping it is part of a lasting trend. White has always been a high XBH% and high OBP guy so if he can combine that with low strikeout rate, we've got a keeper.

With Gattis and Marisnick sucking so bad, I Don't see a reason why the Astros shouldn't promote White...put one of the other two on the DL.

Investing n FA market should have financial disclaimers like this.... Customers should read the relevant risk warnings before investing. Your capital is at risk and your losses may exceed the value of your original investment.

I haven't given up on either player, but I would welcome new faces to the pen.

I could be wrong, but I think Whitley would have probably started the season at AA anyway, regardless of the suspension. Last year was a whirlwind for him. He started the season at A ball and pitched in 12 games. Then he got promoted to A Advanced and pitched in 7 games before he was promoted again to AA. He made just 2 starts and pitched a total of 14.2 innings at AA after he was promoted last season....all of this before his 20th birthday.

I think Whitley should finish the season in AA and let him have a nice strong season to get his legs back under him. Make him a late August call up for playoff reliever if he just destroys AA.

It is pretty incredible what Whitley did last season as a 19 year old. His numbers actually got better as he was promoted up from one level to the next in the minors:
Class A Quad Cities——--- SO/W 3.19, SO/9 13.0 BB/9 4.1, H/9 8.2, WHIP 1.360, GO/AO 0.66 A Advanced Buies Creek - SO/W 5.56, SO/9 14.4,BB/9 2.6, H/9 8.0, WHIP, 1.181, GO/AO 1.00 AA Corpus Christi———-—SO/W 6.50, SO/9 16.0, BB/9 2.5, H/9 4.91,WHIP 0.818, GO/AO 1.13

I agree that Whitley looks like a stud. He did make a pretty big error in judgement though right after his big year. Letting him earn his way back into the team's good graces is a life lesson that in my opinion will help the young man as he moves along.

Was it a performance enhancing related or narcotics?

Been meaning to ask that too now that some time has passed. Didn't know if it was appropriate though.

The story goes he was going to do a long drive home and wanted something to help keep him awake.

I know they do but it is perplexing how that works.

Seems popping a couple of No-Doze or chugging a Red Bull would have been a more prudent choice.

But Gattis isn't catching. So you'd have three actual catchers on the team. Who are you not going to play? Who's skills do you want to go cold since they would never play?

Gattis isn't much of a catcher. Specially if you compare him to Conger whom the board ripped eight ways from Sunday over his defensive liabilities

Last I heard, Conger wasn't even playing professional baseball. He had his moments though.

Bringing up a 3rd catcher would be a waste.

From games played April 30:
AAA - Fresno 11 Salt Lake 4 Tony Kemp 2B- 1-5, BA .324 Drew Ferguson CF- 1-5, 1 2B, BA .343....threw a runner out at second Kyle Tucker RF- 3-4, 2 2B, BA .313 Tyler White 3B- 1-5, 1 HR(7), BA .309 AJ Reed 1B- 1-4, BA .256 JD Davis DH- 2-4, 1 2B, BA .368 Garrett Stubbs C- 2-5, BA .364 Jon Kemmer LF- 2-5, 2 2B, BA .207 David Paulino RHP- 3 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 5 K, ERA 6.00....first appearance of the season. Has been on the DL. Trent Thornton RHP- 4 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 5 K, ERA 3.42 James Hoyt RHP- 2 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 5 K, ERA 1.00
AA - Frisco 2 Corpus 1 Myles Straw CF- 2-5, BA .361....stole his 14th base Stephen Wrenn RF- 2-5, BA .278 Ryne Birk 2B- 1-5, BA .287 Randy Cesar 3B- 2-5, BA .329 Carmen Benedetti LF- 1-4, 1 HR(2), BA .273 Lorenzo Quintana C- 1-5, BA .220 Ryan Hartman LHP- 5.1 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 7 K, ERA 1.83 Erasmo Pinales RHP- 2.2 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, ERA 8.49 Kevin Hill RHP- 3.2 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 4 K, ERA 2.40 Sean Stutzman LHP- 0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 0 K, ERA 3.00 (Well the box score of this game answers one of the questions I had about this new “free gimme runner on second base at the beginning of each team’s at-bat in extra innings” rule. The winning run for Frisco was scored by the gimme runner when he advanced to third on a ground out by the first batter and then scored on a sacrifice fly by the second batter. I was wondering if the pitcher would be charged in the box score with allowing a earned run when the gimme runner scores. Kevin Hill started the 12th for Corpus Christi and gave up the ground out and sacrifice fly that scored the gimme runner, but he wasn’t charged with allowing a earned run. At least the geeks who came up with this rule got that right. In no way was that run earned by Frisco.)
A Advanced Buies Creek was not scheduled
A Quad Cities was not scheduled
