Alvarez is showing out too. Long term I can see Alvarez in left, Springer in center, Tucker in right, and Straw being the swingman/defensive replacement. Bregman at 3rd, Correa at SS, Altuve 2nd, and ........ who is on first?

slim but not impossible. Depends on the cost of the starting pitching 3-6 years down the road.

Grayson Rodriguez is pitching in Lufkin tomorrow night at 7:00. It's a playoff game. If anyone lives near Lufkin I would highly recommend coming to the game. I hope we can somehow draft this young man.

Corbin Martin makes his first start at AA for Corpus Christi tomorrow night. Talk about a guy who is on the fast track through the minors. He was drafted in the second round last June. He pitched 5 innings for the Astros Gulf Coast Rookie League team and was promoted to Short Season A Tri-City where he pitched 27.2 innings to finish the 2017 season. This year he skipped Full Season A ball and started the season at Advanced A Buies Creek where he pitched 19 innings of shutout ball, giving up just 4 hits, before being promoted to AA Corpus Christi. 51.2 innings into his pro baseball career and he is already at AA. Not bad.

Alvarez is showing out too. I hope Alvarez keeps playing well and makes it to AAA by mid-season. I’d like to see how he can handle AAA this season. Straw and Alvarez.

I hope Alvarez keeps playing well and makes it to AAA by mid-season. I’d like to see how he can handle AAA this season. Straw and Alvarez. Agreed. Right now Fresno has 4 outfielders on their roster..., Tucker, Ferguson, Alejandro Garcia and Kemmer. Garcia (soon to be 27 years old and isn’t a prospect anymore) and Kemmer (27 years old, 3rd year at AAA, BA .198, 33 K in 86 AB, so far) have no future in Houston. If Tucker is called up, either Alvarez or Straw is likely to get promoted to AAA to replace him. I could see Garcia and/or Kemmer being sent down to AA/traded/released to make room for Alvarez and/or Straw. Any way the FO decides to do it is ok with me, but if Straw and Alvarez continue to rake at AA, it would be nice to see them both at AAA soon.

All 3 of them, Tucker, Alvarez or Straw, are not major league ready, but the Astros offense needs a jolt. I don't think White or Davis will be that jolt, and since the kids are not ready, what do the Astros do? Before Bortaz intervenes, yes start hitting, but I am thinking an addition to the team could help ignite them.

I think before a trade is made, Davis and White should be called up, Jake sent down (or hopefully, claimed off waivers by another team) and Gattis released. Guys in the upper minors...like Davis and White...who are busting their tails and getting the job done need to know that their hard work will earn them a legitimate shot with the big club, so I would give those guys a shot before dealing for a player outside the organization. Marisnick, and especially Gattis, need to be removed from the ML active roster in order to show the rest of the team that blatant incompetence will not be tolerated or rewarded.

Like thomas stated I also don't think White or Davis will be the jolt that brings the offense together. That starts with Springer, Altuve, Correa, Gurriel and Bregman getting hot, being more selective & striking out less. I do however think that White & Davis can do better than Marisnick and Gattis at this point.

There probably isn't a single player who can spark the offense into action. However, I think that having abpve-league-average hitters in the bottom fo the order like White and maybe Davis would help the rest of the lineup see better pitches to hit and cause opposing pitchers to tire and get frazzled sooner. Men on base often make a pitcher lose concentration or get flustered. The bottom of the lineup simply getting on base could do much to make magic happen with the lineup turns over.

“Time for White to comeback to the majors” - Thomas
Yes. Both White and Davis. The trio of Marisnick, Fisher and Gattis is killing us. With two of those three in the lineup every day along with Marwin, we are pretty much giving away three innings a game on offense.
I am still a bit baffled by the team’s decision to send Davis..., who was batting .250 and had just gone 5-10 in the series against Minnesota..., to AAA and keep Fisher...., who was batting .154 and 1-17 in his last 8 games...., on the Astros only to sit Fisher most of the time in favor of Marisnick.

Boot either Fisher or Marisinick and boot Gattis (or better yet, DL him)....And for Blank Sakes, get another bullpen arm.

BTW - I want to punch Martes in the nuts...Astros have a great rotation and are deep for possible starters, so there is no room for Martes now to make an impact on the team....but his alleged elite stuff could have been welcomed into the bullpen...where we need someone to come through.......but no, he has no control, so he is worthless right now....

I'd be fine with White being the primary DH for the time being. Davis can play LF against LHP and be a part time-player against righties. I think Marwin is getting too many starts and the time has come to realize he shouldn't be in the lineup against southpaws.
Honestly I would send Fisher and Giles down to make room. Fisher isn't much of a defensive replacement because he's a poor defender. Marisnick can be a pinch runner and late game defensive replacement but keep him in left. Reddick's arm needs to stay in right and Springer has looked awful in RF the last two seasons. I'm just not ready to let go of Gattis. As for Giles, we don't need eight relievers with our quality rotation and only Giles, Harris, and Devenski can be optioned. I think it would benefit KennyG to close some games for the Hooks or Grizzlies and make sure he figures out why his slider doesn't slide so often.

I'm also disappointed in Bregman, Reddick and Springer. They're all doing worse than they should be and it's ridiculous how bad the entire lineup has been at home Springer is par for the course. He fluctuates from Brad Ausmus to Babe Ruth at the plate. Bregman is disappointing because he always has a horribly slow start and has to overcompensate for respectable numbers. Reddick is streaky too. He’ll get going eventually like Springer. So will Bregman. I’m most disappointed in Altuve. I know he’ll do better, but there’s no reason for a hitter of his caliber to rack up the strikeouts. I can’t think of a worse game from him than yesterday. His batting average is looking really hollow right now.

It’s hard to know what to think. They did this nonsense last season, and they ended up throwing a parade downtown. True, but as you have pointed out already, the AL West is much stronger this year. They won’t be walking off with the division title by 20+ games this year. Also the Yankees and Red Sox are stronger than they were last year. The Astros won’t repeat this year unless they start hitting much better than they have so far.

The trio of Marisnick, Fisher and Gattis is killing us. With two of those three in the lineup every day along with Marwin, we are pretty much giving away three innings a game on offense. I'm also disappointed in Bregman, Reddick and Springer. They're all doing worse than they should be and it's ridiculous how bad the entire lineup has been at homeWith the 1-4 batters in the lineup disappointing it just magnified the glaring weakness at 7-9.

(Not that we want to take it by default.) I also don't think we will continue to have an issue with the Yankees. The Red Sox are the team that worries me in the AL.
