Must be slow walking him and that is probably good. He probably has 3 more starts for the year so if they can get him up to 5 innings by his last start and if he can get there pitching the way he has in all but the two starts that he was hurt in then this year won't be a complete waste for him.

If you take his 61 extra bases earned by steals and add them to his slugging % and take the 10X2 caught stealing or whatever the number is off his on base % then you would have a pretty impressive ops. Just forget the home runs and embrace the stolen bases. Seems simple enough.

Looking at the box score, game log and recap of the Corpus Christi game, there is no mention of any injury so hopefully he came through in good shape. He threw a 1-2-3 first inning, but walked two batters and hit another in the second inning. He threw 35 pitches, 17 for strikes. I’m thinking you are right. They probably had him on a low pitch number limit, it being his first game back from the DL. If he hadn’t been wild in the second inning, he may have pitched another inning or two.

Since Cora took over in Boston, their team has taken a more aggressive approach at the plate AND on the bases. Like I’ve said before, Houston’s strategy on offense is much like that employed by slow pitch softball teams. Every guy goes to the plate looking to knock the ball out of the park. If he happens to get on base, he stands around and waits for the next guy to knock the ball out of the park. Doesn’t make for a very exciting game (or successful team) when their batters can’t manage to hit the ball out of the park. May as well be watching beer league slow pitch softball.

This is what I don’t understand. They need to face facts: the offense stinks. The announcers kept pointing out that the pitcher Marquez is slow to home plate. Why are they not stealing bases? Why do they sit around and allow DP’s to happen? It’s such lackadaisical hopeless baseball. Right now, they should treat every baserunner as a scarce commodity and do their best to drive them in. I’m not guaranteeing that it would definitely lead to victories, but you can’t just display such lack of effort for the fans. It’s embarrassing.

At least the running game would put some pressure on the opposing teams’ pitchers and defense. Right now they are entirely too comfortable.

Bukauskas pitched a gem tonight with 7 innings of 1 hit ball. 5ks and 1 walk. Looking good, should start next year at AA. If he has a couple of more starts like this he should get back into the top 100 again.

Wonder if he will get the call Sept 1st? If Reed would get himself down to about 235-240 his bat speed would increase and the holes in his swing would narrow. For him and Singleton the munchies are going to prove to be expensive in terms of lost wages. Singleton due to being a pot head and Reed due to a lack of discipline in his eating. Reed had over 30 last year, lost 25lbs over the winter and still looked like the pillsbury dough boy at 260. He needs to be 235 and he will speed up.

Wonder if he will get the call Sept 1st? Home runs are nice and all, but I’d like to think that if a team wanted him, then Luhnow would pull the trigger. I don’t see him becoming Jim Thome anytime soon.

Reed has never been given the chance to thrive at the MLB level. With that being said, I think he is another AAAA player unfortunately.

we have some pretty good candidates to move into the top 100 after the year is over. Bukuaskas, Martin, and Beer are pretty much a sure thing so long as they keep up what they have been doing.
