I must have missed something. Where is Yuli? He's in Corpus Christi playing with the Hooks on rehab assignment for his hand. He is scheduled to rejoin the Astros for Friday's game against Arlington.

Okay sounds good. I knew he was still rehabbing but I hadn't heard for how long or why. The last I saw he was doing well but they just wanted him to take a couple more games. I think the lineup can use the boost.
I think Fisher has a future with us, but pushing him back into more of a bench role for now will be good, I think. He has obvious proven value as a late inning running and defensive replacement, but our offense could use the boost right now.
That being said, I think Yuli over-performed a little last year offensively. (Of course I thought Reddick did too but he has certainly had a great start to this year.)

I woulldn't count on Yuli being available. I suspect the MLB powers that be may not go along with his suspension being run off before he was ready to play in the Majors. They are pretty insistent that the suspension be served after he was healthy. I don't think we've heard the end of this yet.

So long as he is docked for 5 game checks I think MLB will just go along

Don’t forget that Yuli was pretty much the best player in Cuba. It’s not a surprise to me that he performed well last year.

wah? Yuli underperformed last year. He leads the team in strong contact percentage. Dude has the potential to be an offensive juggernaut.

They said Yuli should be activated Friday when we get home to play Arlington.

Yuli put up OPS+ of 124 last year. Even if he declines over the remainder of his contract with the Astros, it's likely to be a gentle fall to maybe 120+ this year, then 115+ the next year... he's been too good over his career to just fall off a cliff.

I didn't say he would fall of a cliff. I said I think he overperformed last year. And, unless his defense improves, a lowering OPS+ makes him a very low WAR player. He's not likely to get better than he did last year. (Which is fine, I still think we need him this year.)

Considering his low K rate and his high exit velocity average, there was bad luck involved in his OPS+ only being 124.

I'm not holding my breath at his age.

Yuli's return could be the shot in the arm this offense needs. We can thank our pitching staff for the 9-2 record we have now considering how pathetic our offense has performed.

The Astros' offense has been pathetic but what I can't understand is why the entire league's offense is way down from where it was a year ago. Last year the average American League OPS was .753. Today the average OPS is .698. That's a huge dropoff.
This is the type of offense we saw (league-wide, not just the Astros) in 2014, when the AL OPS was .706. In other words, pre-juiced ball era. I wonder if they changed back to the old baseballs? We sure haven't seen too many HRs from the Astros this year.

I think teams are getting smarter with pitcher usage and playing the match-ups and shifts more efficiently.
