Let Bregman play SS. Move Yuli to 3rd and let White play first. Diaz arm is a noodle.

it's a head scratcher why a GM who puts such a premium on defense wanted to trade for this guy

Baseball season came too early...I'm not done with my Biochemistry course yet...I needed to be studying instead of watching this game...

I guess the key to this series for the Astros is to not score first.

Diaz has not made any fans so far. I'm sure he'll end up being fine, but he's sure shaky at the start.

It is always good to have a diversion, but this game wouldn't cure that. Corch's post-loss bitchfest about who's to blame is an entertaining diversionLOL. It has been only one appearance by Sale and Eovaldi and watching them getting torched. Then listening to their announcers throwing the excuses around on their part. Lottery money the Red Sox dished out for those two.

Kudos to Mr. Charlie Morton. Bet it gave him great sartisfaction to slip us a "L" right out of the box. One I know of many of us, is a guy who shouldn't have gotten away.
Every true Astros fan should have a soft spot in their heart for Charlie. I consider him one of the unsung heros of our '17 WS team. Without his gutsy appearance in relief in G7, we might still be waiting for that 1st championship;

Neither would I, a qualifying offer would of been a good thing though and may of been enough to keep the Rays away.

There may have been enough old school thought about pitchers who rely on curves as having a short shelf life to give pause. Of course they used to say that about power fastball pitchers too until Nolan proved to be exceptional.

I agree, but I think we might have been able to keep for something somewhat less than that.

A few things that stood out from the second game --
Brantley and Diaz really hurt the cause today. Brantley by trying to make a triple out of a double (which was not hit in traditional triples territory). And Diaz with the bad throw to first. Most likely, Correa makes that play. When Brantley made his bonehead sprint, the Stros were in a good position to run CM's pitch count up early, but Brantley helped him get out of the inning early.
Cole would have gotten out of 3rd inning early and without much damage if Diaz hadn't flubbed the throw to Gurriel.
Interesting move by Hinch to pinch hit White for Diaz in the 9th. For one thing, it didn't show much confidence in Diaz.I guess if the Astros had tied it, the defensive plan was to move Bregman to SS, Gurriel to 3B, and put White in at 1B. White's pinch hit was to the opposite field, which he didn't do a lot of last season. He made a noticeable use of his spring training ABs to work on the opposite field hitting, so good to see that paying off.

When I saw Ji-Man Choi step up to bat, I seriously thought Hank Conger had returned to the MLB.

He was the only one to drive in any runs, and they had more than ample time to pad their lead. Diaz has been far from impressive, but it was up to Cole to pick him up that inning, but he gave up hit after hit. I’m not saying Cole had anything less than a solid game, but you can’t let one error unravel your progress.

Diaz is a utility player. I don't think they were expecting to, or will, start him a lot.
