That sounds grossly negligent. That reminds of me when whats-his-face in Baltimore never used Britton in a win or go home in the postseason and it went to extra innings a few years back. Never much cared for Buck Showalter.

MLB.com has a new Top 30 Astros prospects list out. Whitley, Tucker and Alvarez are still 1-3. I'm a bit surprised that Alvarez hasn’t moved past one or both of those guys based on the year he is having vs the early struggles of Tucker and especially Whitley. What are we going to do when you go on your cruise? Who will keep us updated on the farm? I don’t know. Maybe Doug or 240? Wife and I will be in Houston at MDA June 9-10. Flying to Seattle on the 11th. Will be in Seattle June 11-13. Cruising June 14-21. I’m thinking there is a good chance that either Alvarez or Tucker... maybe both of them... will be with the ‘stros by the time we return.

After allowing 8 earned runs in 9 innings pitched in his first 3 appearances at AA, Astros #7 prospect Bryan Abreu threw 5 innings of no-hit, shutout ball tonight for Corpus Christi. He walked 2 and struck out 6. Colin McKee pitched 2.1 innings of no-hit shutout ball, striking out 5 and walking 1.
Round Rock had the night off.

Astros #30 prospect RHP Jose Hernandez-Urquidy was promoted from AA to AAA yesterday to fill the vacancy created when Martin was called up. #29 prospect RHP Cristian Javier was promoted from Advanced A to AA.

With Matijevic being suspended and Beer being red hot over the last couple weeks, I am thinking Seth gets the promotion to AA any day now. Called it.

What is the scouting report of his ability to hit wicked breaking stuff. I oftrn use Bogusevic as an example of a guy who destroyed MiLB pitching but succumbed to Uncle Charlie in the Show. Hope this isn't the same. In any case, he's earned his promotion.

Springer? During an MVP run? Brantley? Our most reliable left handed bat? Reddick? Our clutch fielder and hitter? Marisnick? Our best defender who is having an outstanding offensive year and deserves to be starting if he were on any other team? Gurriel? Our 1B who is often bailing out errant throws and is still doing well offensively.
One of these would have to be shifted to DH because you don't want a youngster to sit on the bench too much.
I don't want to make that call.

Gurriel is NOT doing well offensively and he continues to be poor defensively. No argument that if White doesn't improve he's the weakest link position player on the team, but, when you take salaries into consideration, Gurriel is right about there with him from a pure ROI standpoint... We've paid him $40 million for 5.0 WAR production so far. We've paid Tyler White under $3 million for 1.4 WAR production... Gurriel is currently at a .730 OPS (95 OPS+) and his glamorous RISP AVG from last year is just .194 this year. If Alvarez comes up and hits, Gurriel should lose the most playing time after White is gone.

My choice would be Brantley due to his history of injuries.

So what's next for AJ Reed? He's obviously not quite the same type of headcase as Singleton, but unless he's injured, his .225 avg with only 2 HRs about 73 ABs just doesn't sound rosterable. Not in a farm system where playing time is hard to come by for the players who really do have a future in MLB.
It wouldn't surprise me if Reed is released at some point in the next 12 months.

Years ago he was the Astros next big thing....now he probably his ceiling could be just trade filler/throw-in.

Reed is not only playing poorly; he's also hogging a valuable spot on the 40-man roster. Eventually Luhnow is gonna need that spot for someone who can contribute and Reed is gonna be smoking a joint somewhere with Singleton.
