On the bright side, Tucker homered twice last night for Round Rock and now has 18 for the season. Alvarez homered once and now has 22.
On the dark side, Round Rock scored 9 runs and still lost by 10. Obviously we should not hold our breath waiting for pitching help to come from AAA.

AJ Reed is batting .308 with 3 home runs over his last 10 games. If Mayfield continues to struggle, Im wondering if Luhnow might send him down and call up Reed to give him one last shot at doing something positive at the ML level and maybe creating a little trade value in the process. Right now he has none.

Alvarez had an 0fer last night...while the express scored 26 runs Yep. Round Rock had 24 hits. Alvarez was the only Express player without a hit. Anibal Sierra.... a .240 hitter... pinch hit for Alvarez in the 9th inning. That seemed odd. I’m wondering if Alvarez may be playing with an injury. On the the bright side: Tucker went 4-7 with 2 home runs. He now has 20 home runs on the year. He raised his batting average to .264 and his OPS to .956. One thing that has gone unnoticed is that he has stolen 13 bases this season and has not been caught stealing once. Nick Tanielu went 3-7 with 2 home runs and 6 RBI. He is heating up. He’s batting .343 over his last 10 games. He is on a 6 game hitting streak and has 4 home runs in his last 10 at-bats. He looked good in ST. If he stays hot and Mayfield stays cold, maybe we will get to see Tanielu in Houston soon? Taylor Jones went 5-5 with a double, a home run and 6 RBI. He is red hot right now. He’s batting .462 over his last 10 games and had multiple hits in 6 of those 10 games. Could he be the Astros first baseman in the future?

Alvarez homered in his last at-bat last night and ended up going 1-5.
Tanielu went 2-5 with a triple to extend his hitting streak to 7 games. He is batting .393 (11-28) with 4 home runs and a triple and raised his OPS 100 points in those 7 games. He was very good in ST this year. He batted .353 with 6 doubles, a triple and 5 home runs in 51 ABs. He plays 1B, 2B and 3B. If Mayfield continues to struggle and Tanielu stays hot, I wouldn’t mind seeing Mayfield sent back down and Tanielu called up and given a shot at ML ball.

Another guy who I think we have a chance of seeing in Houston later this season... maybe a September call-up..., is Joshua Rojas. He was recently promoted to AAA and is doing really well. He has hits in 8 of the 9 games he has played at AAA. He is batting .395 at AAA with more walks(5) than strikeouts(3) in 38 at-bats. He was batting .322 at AA with 8 home runs in 171 at-bats at the time he was promoted. He has played 1B, 2B, SS, 3B, LF and RF in both 2018 and 2019.
He faded with the bat in June - August last season. So far he hasn’t faded this year.

Through 6 innings tonight Tucker is 3-5 with 2 doubles. He has his BA up to .268 and his OPS up to .962. Alvarez is not in the lineup. Tanielu is 3-4 with 2 doubles to extend his hitting streak to 8 games.
Cristian Javier had another good start for Corpus. He pitched 6.1 innings, allowed just 2 hits, no runs walked 2 and struck out 8. He was roughed up in his first appearance after being promoted to AA, giving up 4 ER in 2 IP, walking 4 and striking out none. In his 4 appearances since, he has pitched a total of 20.2 innings, allowed just 1 earned run, walked 7 and struck out 27. Colin McKee came on in relief of Javier and finished the shutout for the Hooks by pitching 2.2 innings, allowing 1 hit, no runs, walking 1 and striking out 4. McKee has thrown 15 consecutive scoreless innings in his last 8 relief appearances and has a 1.59 ERA for the season.

olpapa When you board the ship, turn off your "roaming" on your phone. Especially when you go into Canada. It's been known to rack up a lot of charges for travelers who don't adapt to international travel. Contact your provider while still in Seattle to see what you need to do.
