And Altuve does what he does... I guess the single was something... The fact that he hit it to right field is encouraging. He didn't pull it on the ground into an easy out. He looked better even if he went 1-5. |

The whole White/Kemp discussion is kind of pointless as both will be gone by the break. Alvarez will be up, Tucker will still be in Round Round, and we will have at least one more pitcher on the team. It is obvious that McHugh's strength is his spin rate on the slider and the curve and if he can not maintain that for more than 2 innings, then he can not be a starter. Whitley is working on his slider/curve not sure which but one of those is not thought to be major league ready, Martin and James still have control issues, Armenteros is not thought of as a major league quality pitcher, so we have to trade for one and put McHugh back in the pen where he has found the most recent success.
So Kemp has very little value even if he gets his average back up over 250 as he has a noodle for an arm so he will have to be DFA. White needs to be introduced to Jenny Craig and told that he is next on the waiver wire if he does not get his act together. Then we need to put together a package for Boyd, Stroman, or whoever and quit this messing around. We need to put our foot on the throat of this division and move on before any of these weak sisters gets silly thoughts in their heads.

It's not a matter of accepting mediocrity. It's accepting the fact that not all of your players are going to be amazing. Those guys are players that all teams have because you need to have depth beyond just prospects. We have 5 starting position players, 2 starting pitchers, and two relief pitchers that are all-star caliber players, and a few other players/pitchers that are borderline or have been all-stars in the past. That's amazing. But you're not going to have every player be of that caliber. White, Stassi, Kemp, Marisnick will never ever be all-stars. I think we can say that right now with confidence. But, all but Jake are making less than $600K this year and they provide depth for the MLB team without rushing prospects and eating up service time that we don't need them to do right now. And again, it's not like these guys aren't contributing with what they're mostly expected to do. Marisnick plays great defense, Kemp has versatility, Stassi is a backup catcher, and White is offensive depth. I know people are ready to give up on White despite the fact that he has started to drive in runs lately and has continuously maintained a fantastic OBP and solid AVG, but you don't know that Alvarez will hit even as well as White has. And if he doesn't, you've lost White (because someone will pick him up) and some of that depth that we need. Stubbs looks like shit, Tucker looks meh, and Alvarez will get his shot next month if not earlier due to an injury. This team should be able to win while carrying those roleplayers. If they don't, look at the guys like Altuve, Cole, and Gurriel who aren't playing at the level they need to be. |
