23-15 1st in the division (4 games up) 3rd in the league (1.5 games back) 2nd in run differential (+49) .605 winning percentage (on pace for 98 wins) Team OPS+: 127 Team ERA+: 116
Verlander vs. Lynn
They showed a stat yesterday, that if the season ended right now, the Astros would have the highest OPS+ as a team in baseball history (127). That's pretty impressive, especially when you think about the fact that Altuve is well below his normal (126) at only 114 so far. And the last five years he's averaged 142.
Verlander goes for win #6 (210 of his career). Which again, wins do matter to him still. Hopefully we give him some early run support and let him settle in. His worst start of the year so far was against TEX when he gave up 4 ER in only 4 IP. He looked better against them the next time. He is currently on pace for a 21-4 record with 256 Ks in 213 IP and a 2.86 ERA.

There was an article that debated whether or not this year’s team was better than ‘17. What do you think?

I think position player wise, this is currently the best team we've ever had. I think pitching-wise, it's not as good as last year from a starters standpoint, but I think the bullpen is better than what we started with.
I think even if we stay healthy, it wouldn't hurt for us to dig in our pockets and go get another badass veteran starter for the postseason. That would push Peacock or McHugh back to the bullpen and improve the depth there. If another veteran reliever was available for not a horrible price, I'd say go for it.
I think we should be relatively all in on this year because I think our chances for another WS become a lot less after this season if you look at our pitching situation.

I have tunnel vision for Bumgarner, so the Astros can greatly increase their chances in advancing in the playoffs. Also in hopes if Cole doesn't re-sign here, then maybe Bumgarner might....either one of them staying in 2020 would keep the Astros a favorite to be playoff contender next year.

If Altuve comes back out of hiding, this offense will definitely top the other. The pitching is definitely worse.

Miley has been effective at replacing Keuchel (although I don't think we can expect him to eat as many innings), but we have not gotten close to replacing Morton's production yet. Altuve narrowly missed a HR his first AB and just got under the ball a little too much his 2nd AB, plus he worked a walk and almost beat out an infield single later. I probably shouldn't get my hopes up, but I had a more positive feeling about him yesterday. On the other hand though, Chirinos will NOT continue to be this effective, and I'd be surprised if we didn't see some regression from Springer. He's good, but he's not this rate all year good, if that makes sense.

I seriously doubt we'll have everyone hitting on all cylinders for more than a handful of games. As long as we have 5 or 6 hitting, we'll be winning. I grew up where we won or lost on the first 5 guys in the lineup. If a couple are in slumps at any given time, we can handle it. We just don't want all or most of them slumping at the same time and especially not in the post season.

After this year...yeah, we could have a problem. edit: And we have the best BAA in all of baseball at the moment.

Alright, Astros, this is the third time you’ve won the first game from the Rangers this season. Win a series this time.
