Don't you wanna tank to get a better draft pick?

meh, a better draft pick is a consolation prize for having endured a losing season. I'd still rather see the team playing to win with whatever they have and let the chips fall where they may. I don't begrudge the front office for not going on a buying spree, but the players and manager should be trying to win and develop the younger talent.
If they finish with the worst record in baseball, I won't lose any sleep over it. But that shouldn't be the goal.

They should trade Nick C. while they can. Traditionally the trade market near the deadline is strong for pitching, especially late-innings relievers. For position players it sort of depends on injuries. There isn't much available in corner outfielders due for free-agency this winter. But if Nick doesn't get back on track at the plate I don't see him generating much interest. He's batting around league average. That's not a good look on a corner outfielder with below-average defense. bit.ly/2WFuKbC

They should trade Nick C. while they can. Nick as come out and said He wants out. He feels he is the scap goat of an awful team. And he understands he is a lame duck in RF. But feels he can DH and play 1B. He said he embraced the face of the franchise and they gut him like he was trash. Js value is plummeting

Trade rumors have swirled around Nicholas Castellanos for well over a year, and the outfielder admitted to Chris McCosky of the Detroit News that he has been left feeling “uneasy” from the constant speculation. The piece provides an interesting look into the mindset of a player who knows he is in something of a limbo state, no longer in the long term plans of the team with whom he has spent his entire pro career. “You do everything you can to not let it affect you. If I am going to say it doesn’t affect me, I’d be lying,” Castellanos said. “I’d be giving you a media answer. The only thing I can control is going out and handling my business for me and take each at-bat the best I can for me. And in doing that, I can help the team win.” The situation has left Castellanos in something of a limbo state, as he keeps playing out the stretch waiting for the inevitable trade. Whereas Castellanos embraced a face-of-the-franchise type of responsibility as a public and private team leader last season, McCosky notes that Castellanos has somewhat stepped back from those duties in 2019. “He’s knows he’s a lame-duck right fielder, and as such no longer HAS the obligation or the right to play that role,” McCosky writes.
There is more on McCoskys page that says alot about the comments of Nick Castellanos

He said he embraced the face of the franchise and they gut him like he was trash. Js value is plummeting Links please! This winter he did say that IF he was going to be traded, he wanted to be traded before Spring Training so he could be with his new team during that time. But other than that, it sounds like you're claiming statements were made according to YOUR impression rather than what was actually said by the player. He feels like he can play 1B? I've never read where HE said that. When questioned about the possibility of Nick playing first base: Al Avila said he wouldn’t rule it out. It wouldn’t be a bad idea to see whether Castellanos could play first base. To the best of my knowledge Nick has never talked about it. I challenge you to present any proof of that claim about Nick saying he was the Scapegoat of an awful team.

On the contrary, he was hoping to stay with the team and be the face of the franchise and get a contract extension as the Tigers build for the future. - Nick thinks he can play first? NOPE! Not a word about him saying anything like that. - Scapegoat of an awful team? NOPE! He didn't say that either. Put up or shut up. Im not on the Bumgarner train anymore either he seems to have lost alot lately I agree that we need a catcher for the future. The only problem is that every single team in baseball is doing the same thing. I know you may be new to bazeball but catching is not something every team has running out their butt.

I get that. But im not sure of this but isnt Chirinos 35yrs old?
If so do we really wanna trust Stassi and Stubbs not saying stubbs is bad but js do we?
Interesting question would be would you make a move for a Catcher thats in the early 20s to mid 20s maybe a guy like Jorge Alfaro. I even said a name like Joey Bart of the San Francisco Giants minor leagues. My only draw back on him is dudes really tall.
I like Alfaro, I think he hasnt even begun to tap in to his potential. I dont understand why the Phillies where eager to trade him. But who knows
How about that Aaron Sanchez??

I wanted us (and still want us) to pull the trigger on Greinke. He is looking excellent again this year. But now it looks like AZ has a chance at the postseason so I doubt he'll be available unless they go in the tank.
edit: And speaking of AZ, it looks like they got Greg Holland back on his game for a steal.
