Marisnick made an old school play. He knew the ball might beat him. He tried disrupting the tag and getting the catcher to drop the ball. If he’s out for doing that, then he’s out for playing feckin baseball.
worst call I've seen in a long time, Lucroy moved to the inside to block Jake off the plate and is the one who initiated tbe contact.....a bullshit call.

Lucroy wasn't blocking the plate, he was inside the foul line trying to field the ball and Jake changed direction to go and hit him. Look at Jake's left foot just before the collision. Way inside the foul line despite running with both feet outside the line to begin the play.
He should be suspended.
What game did you watch? You are either blind or full of shit.

I would lay odds that Marisnick is suspended. His head hit Lucroy's head two feet inside the foul line. The thing is Marisnick would of been safe by just running through Lucroy's arm. The ball got there the same time as Marisnick and there is no way in hell that Lucroy would of caught that ball. Stupid play by Marisnick, if you like the rules or not it does not matter, he knowingly violated the rules, he will get suspended.

That’s a more fair assessment, but he didn’t know how soon the ball would’ve gotten there. His goal was to disrupt the play, not intentionally harm the catcher.
Where they ended up doesn't matter. What matters is where they and the ball were when Marisnick made his split-second decision. When he moves to the inside, Lucroy is several feet up the line from home plate, in the running lane, without the ball.
Marisnick moves to the inside FIRST to try and get around Lucroy. Lucroy then moves inside SECOND to try and stop Marisnick before he has possession of the ball.
If Lucroy doesn't have the ball, he shouldn't be in the baseline impeding the runner.
I don't know the exact wording of the rule, but you can't fault the runner in this scenario. I'm not saying you have to necessarily fault the catcher...but you can't fault the runner in that moment. I know I'm not the only person here that used to be a catcher as a kid, and I don't know of a catcher that didn't love plays at the plate. But if I didn't have a play to make, I got the f*ck out of the way.
P.S. And if sports are too dangerous for you, don't f*cking play sports. Jesus. They get paid millions and have great insurance and healthcare. Injuries happen.

Lucroy initiated the contact.......I read where Ausmus was crying and wanting Jake suspended....Jake had a right to the plate and Lucroy was im the way WITHOUT POSSESSION OF THE BALL. Jake should have been called safe....Ausmus needs to shut his mouth. Pete Rose would have knocked Lucroy out cold.

Exactly. Why is him not having possession of the ball not focused on more? You can’t impede without the possession. That’s a fundamental rule glossed over by this controversy. The media always has to have a villain, I guess.

Never made Ausmus out as a whiner. I guess a stint in socal wussified him.

Notice how no one criticized Smith on the play even though he guided the impact with his forearms. Marisnick butted heads with Lucroy. Why would anyone intentionally do that?

Running through his arm in the heat of a bang bang play? In retrospect that seems right, except that there is a strong chance that Jake's field of vision nagle in that run from 3rd that he did not see that option. Like I said earlier, this is unfortunate, but when a catcher appears to completely block the plate, just what is the base runner's recourse?
In this age of the wussification of baseball, I think you are right. Marsinick, will get a bullshit suspension. And.... undeserved if you ask me.
It’s pretty clear-cut: Houston’s Jake Marisnick was nowhere near the plate, wasn’t even aiming toward the plate, when he obliterated Angels catcher Jonathan Lucroy. Lucroy was hospitalized and Marisnick was correctly called out for a violation of MLB’s home-plate collision rule, and the Angels think a suspension should be next.
Marisnick represented the go-ahead run when he bowled over Lucroy while trying to tag up in the eighth inning of Sunday’s eventual 11-10 Houston win. What happened was one of the more frightening collisions in recent years—exactly what baseball was trying to legislate out when it added the rule to protect catchers in 2014...

There was a clear path to the plate, but he was clearly veered from his direct path to the plate toward Lucroy. They were both inside the base line at the point of contact.
