With so many All Stars, why’s Francona leaving Hand out there to die?

Shane Bieber winning the Game MVP just for striking out the side? I feel like that award is so random.

Also, boo to Francona for not using Cole or Pressly although that may have been best for the Astros.

Team did have a good showing this year...
JV scoreless & hitess inning Springer 1-2 Bregman 1-2 Brantley 1-1
A couple of years ago, I compiled a complete statistical analysis of the Colt 45's / Astros cumulative contribution to the game. Until last year, and this ..... it was pretty dismal.

With so many All Stars, why’s Francona leaving Hand out there to die? Why are you blaming Francona, when that Puerto Rican is the manager?

Why did Tanaka make the team again?

Tanaka: 5-5 3.86 ERA (118 ERA+) 18 Games 105 IP 1.181 WHIP Miley: 7-4 3.28 ERA (136 ERA+) 18 Games 101 IP 1.170 WHIP
Seems pretty damn clear that Tanaka was not the proper injury replacement. And Miley may not have been either, I haven't looked at all the starting pitchers in the league, but when the Yankees already had multiple players in as well, how did Tanaka make it?

You answered your own question. The only real surprise is that it wasn't a Red Sox pitcher instead.

It’s unfortunate. In the playoffs, I’d take Caminiti over those two easily. The each had some success in the postseason. It was going to be tough for them their first couple times because they didn't really have any backup in both the 1997 and 1999 teams going up against a HoF pitching staff in ATL. They were the bulk of the offense. They did have help in 1998 but ran into Kevin Brown at his ultimate best, unfortunately. (Who should be in the HoF, imo.) Bagwell got it going finally in 2001 and 2004 (along with Biggio in 2004 and 2005), but we just couldn't get it all together. If Clemens and Oswalt hadn't collapsed in the 2005 WS and Bagwell's shoulder hadn't gone to shit, I'm convinced we would have won our first championship.

My point is Caminiti and even Ausmus kicked butt in the clutch more than our favorites did. If more than just Berkman and Taveras showed up in the World Series, they might’ve had a chance, but the bullpen also didn’t step up. In my opinion, they had a far better chance the season prior to that. If Clemens showed up enough for Game 7, I think they could’ve taken the Red Sox.
