I have a feeling this may be our 25 man roster. I would love to have Tucker but I'm sure Marisnick will be there for defense and can't have 5 outfielders (unless somehow we go with 11 pitchers and take off Urquidy). Straw can play outfield, infield and is lightning fast. Toro will be the odd man out as well. Pitching wise it's almost a no-brainer. Rondon has pitched well enough to get that spot while Devo and Framber should be left off. I really wish though Hinch would put in Tucker for Marisnick.
Hitters:
Springer Altuve Bregman Brantley Alvarez Gurriel
Correa Chironos Reddick Maldonado Diaz Marisnick Straw
Pitchers: Verlander Cole Greinke Miley Peacock Smith Harris Osuna Pressly James Rondon Urquidy

I don't know... I feel like Tucker brings some offensive depth we might want.

The only real question is which two of Reddick/Tucker/Marisnick.

Mlb.com lists Miley as our probable SP on the 26th and Urquidy on the 27th. They could be competing for a roster spot in the ALDS.

I could see the Astros giving Miley time off to get himself rested and right for the ALCS but that's all. I also see Peacock as long relief if Miley gets in trouble so there is some insurance there.
We will also face the Twins in the ALDS if we keep our 2 game loss lead on the Yanks.

If Miley doesn't have a strong start in LA. I don't think he makes the roster and Urquidy would be our #4 starter. I'd go with Abreu over Miley if that happens As for position players, Marisnick, Tucker, and Straw are battling for 2 spots. I think AJ will take Jake for late inning defense and decide between Tucker and Straw for the last spot. My vote goes to Tucker in that case. Before Tucker came up and produced the way he has, I would have taken Straw. Tucker's bat gets him my vote.

If we finish ahead of the Yankees for the top seed, we get the winner of the Wild Card game.........Oakland, Cleveland, or Tampa Bay.

I think Miley makes it, if for no other reason, he's basically our only lefty, and he could be used for matchup purposes if need be. He's still better than Framber.
I know Jake will make it, but I'd rather see Straw and Tucker. Diaz will make it over Toro since he's having a nice finish to the year.

Marisnick is the chubby girl that is the support/"here for you" a part of a pack hot girls... This is his swan song with the Astros. The Straw Era will be taking reign soon. If the Astros can somehow re-sign Cole, I think they will even be better next year. More athletic/talented. New additions and/or now a full year of: Alvarez Tucker Straw Stubbs Greinke McCullers Whitley/Bielak/Abreu/Javier That is pretty awesome when you think about it The tough losses to make the Cole re-signing work, would be trading away super talented Correa and underappreciated Reddick.....but salary space needs to be created and/or we have someone promising to replace them... Great time to be an Astros' fan.

Can we get more than 125 games from Altuve and Springer? Should we expect as much production from our catchers?

Speaking of nice finishes.., Devo’s numbers are not bad in September. I hope he doesn’t sneak onto a playoff roster. I just have no confidence in him at all in any situation.

Cole and Greinke as well after their next one. Let Abreu, Peacock, and Urquidy get some innings. Hell I would like to see Javier and Armenteros get some more innings if possible. Rest the war horses so that they are fresh when we need them.

We have to rest JV so he's ready to come into the game in the 8th inning for a 2 inning save in the ALDS.

I would not take Miley unless he has a good start in LA. I would not take him just because he's a lefty, but, my bet is that he makes it. No way will Valdez be considered. As for Tucker and Straw, we have to choose between Straw's speed and Tucker's bat. Tucker is probably a better defensive OF and he could be used as a pinch runner even though he doesn't have Straw's speed. I agree that both should go over Jake but it won't happen.

We've got a week to rest and prepare guys as much as possible. All I care about is a fully healthy ready-to-play team for the postseason. Let the roleplayers battle it out to see who makes the postseason roster.

And since I am not stupid that is not what I am saying. We have 6 games left. Cole and Greinke are pitching against the Mariners who are already throwing their AAA guys to have a look. I doubt seriously that we lose either game of those two. While we are playing those two games the Yankees are playing the Rays in games that the Rays have to win to stay tied with the Indians for the second wild card spot. So I THINK that the Yankees will lose at least one of those two games giving us a three game lead with only 4 games left to play. The odds of us losing 3 out of 4 to the Angels are so long as to almost not be worth considering. So I THINK that Verlander has seen his last start and Cole and Greinke will see their last start against the M's. Saint's thought about a 2 or 3 inning outing does make sense though to keep them tuned up. OBVIOUSLY if we need them to secure home field then they start again.

I fail to understand why you seem to place no importance on securing home field advantage against the Yankees. They have 5 games left......2 in Tampa and 3 in Arlington. We have 2 with Seattle and 4 with LA. I think we can go 4-2 n tbose games and tie the Yankees in wins and losses wbich gives us home field. The Rays are fignting for the second wild card and will pull out all stops to beat the Yankees. Tne Rays should get at least a split in tbose games. I tbink if we finish 106-56 we get the home field and that is sssuming the Yankees lose at least once this week. We MUST not rest players if it means taking a chance on the Yankees getting home field........We don't want a game 7 in Yankee Stadium. I can't believe you would be OK with an 0-6 week.

What scares me is Miley starting in LA. If things go OK, the worst we do is 4-2 on this trip....The Yankees have to win all 5 to beat us out. Rignt now, I am more comfortable with urquidy than with Miley.

If you can't win one extra game on the road, you weren't good enough anyways. We beat LA on the road in the WS, and we're a better team now. Plus, I don't want to play Oakland in the first round, if possible. I think we match up better against the Twins. We also took the Yankees 4-3 during the season despite playing 4 of those 7 on the road. That being said, we should be able to win most of these remaining scrub games by playing our B team. We have guys that need some rest, and we have some guys that need more playing time to see where they stand for us and the postseason. I consider those more important. Homefield throughout is great, but health and the right roster is more important.
