Especially the middle away pitch. Down and out is hard to hit well so I don’t fault that. He hit a middle-down pitch to RF in the 1st inning last night and collected an RBIThat was a badass hit. Keep it up.

And, here you are never missing an opportunity to bash Springer or Correa while tooting Altuve's horn. It is great to praise Bregman who is an elite player. The other two are also elite players at different positions. If those who gave Bregman the "team-friendly extension" had done the same with Altuve instead of over-paying him, we may have had the money to entice Springer to stay unless he was dead set on leaving. He may have declined any offer, but, I doubt it. Fact is we don't know if he would have or not. We had around $30 million a year tied up in Altuve instead of around the $25 million he was worth which may have allowed us to keep Springer. We will never know the facts about it. I think Correa is asking for too much, but, we don't know what Springer would have accepted to stay. Correa is not increasing his value with the 2-30 or whatever slump he is in now. We can kiss Correa goodbye. I have the same feeling about him as I had with Cole. He gone... At this point, I’ll miss Cole more.

Yeah, I definitely agree. The guy is an elite player that signed a fairly team-friendly extension to stay with us (unlike George or Correa). He is having a "quiet" season that includes a .313 AVG and a 145 OPS+. His defense hasn't yet quite been up to his more recent standards, but I think it will come around. That's just how it is. If Springer had done that instead, I'm sure he would have been offered as such. C. We also have $50+ million tied up in Verlander and Greinke. Why don't you criticize them the way you do, Jose? Of those three guys only one of them is performing at an above-average level.

I have always said if we had tried to keep Morton, we would not have needed to trade four top prospects for Greinke. No, I'm not trying to bash Altuve. He would have been dumb not to accept the deal they made him.

It’s hard to blame Luhnow for letting him go, especially when injuries kept him from helping us against Boston.

We have no idea what George was offered. C. Verlander earned his money and we may still have him.....Greinke is vastly overpaid and would not be here had we done a better job to retain Morton. As it is, we are straddled with Zack's salary while he is in decline and lost four top prospects in the process. The criticism over the contract was not aimed at Jose, but, the ones giving it to him.

Greinke did his job. It’s not his fault that Hinch decided to go to the playoff choke artist instead of Cole.

Greinke did his job. It’s not his fault that Hinch decided to go to the playoff choke artist instead of Cole. Pulling Greinke in that game was the WORST move Hinch made while he was our manager. It probably cost us the WS. Hinch basically ran Cole off when he warmed him up and didn't use him. Of course, Cole may have left anyway. He probably would due to what the Yankees gave him.

Altuve signed his extension before the 2018 season after winning the 2017 MVP, and winning the batting title 4 years in a row... After he signed his extension 2018 season - .316/.386/.451 2019 season- .298/.353/.550 Yes in the shortened 2020 season he sucked big time - .219/.286/.344 but his post season was phenomenal. 2021 - .291/.333.427 - above average, but give it time, he is getting his groove back. I will not be surprised by season's end he is not .310/.380/.450 So seriously, where do you get off thinking Altuve is overpaid? He earned that every bit of contract he got, and besides in the shortened 2020 season, he has been a great producer for the team. And I am willing to bet Altuve's lives up better to his contract extension given to him by the Astros, than Springer will for the Blue Jays.

Why did Morton do better after Strom?

My main criticism with Altuve's contract was not with him, but, with those who gave it to him. He deserved an extension but not at $29 million per year. At the time, we had other core players that we needed to extend, too. He should have gotten about $25 million per year for the 7 years and not $29 million. None of them deserve as much as they are paid. George may not live up to his deal, but, I wish we had signed him to see if he could live up to it with us. You point out his production. Did you notice it has declined yearly since he signed the contract? That is not bashing, just a fact.

Why did Morton do better after Strom? Er, if you will look back, you will see that Morton never came close to being as good as he was BEFORE Strom. After Strom, I'm sure he used some of what Strom did with him to be as successful as he was with the Rays. Strom is the guy who turned him into the pitcher he was. Strom is the guy who made Dallas Keuchel effective for awhile. Strom is the guy who turned Gerrit Cole into the pitcher he is so he could get the big money the Yankees gave him. Strom is the guy who is turning Javier, Urquidy, Valdez, and Garcia into good starting pitchers. Now, if the dumbass manager doesn't ruin all of them, we are set for several years.

Morton ain't a HoFer. This shouldn't even be a comparison. Who implied that Morton was a HoFer? My only point was that if we had kept him we wouldn't have needed to trade for Greinke in the first place and would have his salary to pay other core guys we needed to keep, plus, we'd have the four players we traded for him to either keep or use in other trades.
