Playing one game every three weeks with maybe some pinch running in between isn't going to help any young player be effective, whether they're great or not. That's the life of every player when they are brought up to the majors. The ones with talent adjust and make the best of the situation, sometimes earning a permanent position. The only thing Stubbs does consistently is blow chances.

It would be nice of somebody would provide us with evidence that Stubbs has been given a reasonable shot. Last year, when he should have been given the chance to stick as the backup catcher, they made the ridiculous decision to sign Garneau and waste time and money on him instead of going with Stubbs. I don't remember Stubbs ever being with the Astros long enough to show if he could handle the job or not. He is not a better option right now than Maldonado or Castro. Last year, he was a better option than Garneau and still got shoved aside. I don't understand why they don't trade him since they obviously have no plans for him. Korey Lee should be ready to step in as our regular catcher when Maldonado's extension runs out. They have no plans for Stubbs so why not give him a chance somewhere else. I don't know whose decision it was not to give him the shot last season,b but, whoever made the final decision, made a big mistake.

In Stubbs’ MLB career over 3 seasons he has a total of 64 ABs in 41 games. He has 12 hits... 4 doubles, no triples and no home runs..., in 64 ABs.
Alex Bregman played the first game of his MLB career on July 25, 2016. He was placed in the starting lineup and played every day. At the end of the day on August 11, 2016, Bregman had played in 16 games and accumulated 64 ABs. After his first 64 ABs, Bregman had 10 hits.., 4 doubles, no triples and no home runs..., in 64 ABs.
Just sayin.

Just sayin. Thanks for providing the evidence I mentioned about Stubbs never being given a real shot to stick with the Astros. I didn't realize that he has done more in 64 AB's than Bregman did in his first 64. Stubbs has never been with the team long enough at one time or given enough AB's to show that he belongs here. It's a shame he didn't get the time we wasted on Garneau.

They call him up, he gets 2 slap singles over 13 games, then he's sent down. Corch and Saint complain that he never gets a chance. Rinse and repeat.

The issue being debated was whether or not Stubbs has been given a chance. Bregman being a number 2 pick is irrelevant. What is relevant is that Bregman got as many at-bats in his first 2 weeks in MLB as Stubbs has been given in 3 years. If a player’s numbers after 64 ABs in MLB is the measuring stick that is going to be used to determine if a player has been given a chance and whether or not that player should be tossed on the scrap heap based on poor numbers after 64 ABs, Bregman should have been gone after 64 ABs.

Just sayin. Who has the quicker hook, Corch or Bortaz? I mistakenly had a quick hook for Bregman when he first came up and he proved me wrong. I also refused to give up on Kyle Tucker when some wanted him included in trades. I don't remember who it was that kept referring to him as a "AAAA player" We refused to trade him and he's made us glad we kept him. I was ready to give Straw the hook and thomas13 was right in saying he would come around. I am still high on Chas McCormick and think he will prove to be a keeper. I stuck with not trading Whitley until this year. I remember Nolan Ryan saying that Whitley "can't miss". This was one time Nolan was wrong. I'd gladly include him in a deal for a top reliever. I also said that I didn't know why anybody would want Joe Smith back this year after he "opted out" last season. He has proven me right by being horrible all year. He needs to be released. If anyone wants to hang on to Robel Garcia, they need to be tested.

Don't use the draft round a guy is selected to decide what you will get out of him. Roy Oswalt was a 23rd round pick and he turned out OK. Neither Tucker nor Straw looked all that great after 64 AB's. It would be interesting to know just exactly what guys who ended up being stars did in their first 64 AB's. I am NOT saying Stubbs will end up being a star, just saying he hasn't had the same chance to succeed that we gave other young players.

Sometimes everyone agrees an Astro's been given a fair shake, only to watch him move to another team and prove he could hit in the majors after all Because we hire and keep half-assed hitting coaches. Teoscar Hernandez was shipped off to Toronto and was just voted to the All Star team. Stassi couldn't hit his weight in Houston and is hitting close to .300 with the Angels.
