Gurriel has hit into horrible luck; the rest, not so much.
Even when a pitcher throws a 100-pitch shutout, he still throws probably 15-20 very hittable pitches. Making contact with those pitches is what these guys are paid to do. So far it hasn't been good, but really the only thing to do is to keep throwing them out there and hope they do better.

Of all the Batters I think Bregman needs to be outed. He has killed every rally every time when he had men on base to drive in. Strikeout-weak grounder and the occasional fly ball. He is not showing his .296 avg and .590+ Slg. He is supposed to be the Man.
Then you have Springer who everyone says is the spark. Yes, he has two good HRs but other than that has been awful.
Altuve is the only Player who has SHOWN up this ALCS. He can't do it alone.
everyone is hating on Alverez, SHOW me of the top 5 other than Altuve who has produced consistently. They all are sucking wind on offense. Yuli, Brantley, I can't really jump on Correa, well yes it is his fault he didn't see pitching for most of the month of September so he really has shown up except the HR.
Just glad the Yankees have been too. The media kept saying how the Yankees weren't hitting and never mentioned how bad the Astros offense has been.

One thing I can't wait for (and why I'm happy this bullpen game in today in Houston and not last Wednesday in NY) is the Astros hitters are getting more and more used to the Yankees relievers.
We had a big shot in the 7th inning after Paxton left to do some damage and couldn't. We've hit Green and Otto and Chapman is a late inning guy. The Astros will make adjustments. The one good thing is the Yanks have not seen Urquidy this series and Peacock for only an inning yesterday. These guys are still fresh and could be a catalyst to keep the game close for awhile. I'm hoping for at least 5 innings from those two guys to start the game with no more than 2 runs given up.

They also did this.  Yup, saw that. And Buck was rattled a bit afterwards too, like he was lost for words but kept trying to talk. Everyone knows it should say "John Smoltz sucks" instead. |

Anyone for some Yankee fan payback? I vote for a giveaway where we give fans 1st/3rd base and further back bi-colored shirts. One side black while we are batting, and swap to white side while Yankees hit. And btw... I hope Mrs Verlander would be a particpant in this promotion.  |

Peacock starting tonight. Here is our lineup: Springer Altuve Brantley Bregman Gurriel Correa Alvarez Maldonado Reddick About as expected.....I thought Peacock might get the start. I felt his 1 inning yesterday was to get him prepared for today. I can see him going 2 innings at least and if he stays out of trouble maybe 3 then Urquidy comes in for a few.
Bullpen will definitely be Pressly, Harris and Smith after that and hopefully Osuna for the save.
Verlander did a great job of making sure they didn't see those guys yesterday.

I sure hope our batting coaches reinternate that hitting a home run is not the intent at each at bat. I'd love a big win where we didn't hit any extra base hits greater than a double.

We may lose 10-0, but I still feel good about this game because everyone expects the opposite. Remember the doom and gloom here before Charlie F'n Morton saved us in 2017 WS G7? Today has that feel to it Except Verlander actually evened the series first. |
