Bullpen vs. Bullpen
Well... If you'd have told me before we flew to NYC that we'd come back 3-2, I'd take that in a heartbeat. JV had a rough inning but otherwise looked great. The offense continues to struggle, but hopefully getting back home will help. We've seen their bullpen a lot, and they'll likely use Happ some today, which should be in our favor. Course we'll have to use Urquidy and others too, so who knows?
Altuve, Brantley, and Bregman are getting on base, but we need people to actually start driving in some runs. And they need to get aggressive again. When we had Springer and Altuve on last night late in the game with Brantley up, we should have tried a hit and run or something. Take some chances. Not to mention we should have sent Brantley on the Yuli flyout earlier.
My wife desperately wants to go to Academy after the game to buy WS shirts so I hope they don't let her down.

With a slumping Alvarez,no more Marisnick starting, just makes the 7-8-9 like the days of Everett, Ausmus and pitcher batting.. And yes, Marisnick had a blooped single, but like always, he was overmatched at the plate. The bloop single was Jake's ceiling..

Hinch starting Álvarez is pure stubbornness. I just don’t understand it. It’s like he’s telling the bench, “I know the kid couldn’t hit water if he fell out of a boat, but I can’t seriously start you guys.”

The question about replacing Alvarez is who do we use in his place? We have two choices.......Tucker or Diaz. I am not sure either would be an improvement but I'd give Tucker a shot. Yordan is clueless.
With that said, Hinch won't replace him.

It’s like he’s telling the bench, “I know the kid couldn’t hit water if he fell out of a boat, but I can’t seriously start you guys.” If Alvarez was hitting the ball hard for outs I could see Hinch chalking this up to bad luck. Problem is he is missing miserably at the plate (many times near a foot), and sadly has become an almost automatic out. Coaching staff needs to either get to the bottom of why he has lost his skills, or bench him. This doesn't have the earmarks of a normal slump.

Hinch has to do more than defiantly say he’s starting the kid again tomorrow constantly. Anyone can just redo the same lineup daily and watch the same person not have a clue at the plate.

He doesn’t have it right now. You don’t have time to hope he runs into one. If they want, he can pinch hit later on in the game, but as I said with Gattis, if your only freakin job is to hit you’d better do it or sit.

Alvarez’s slump right now is worse than what I ever saw with Gattis and I did not like Gattis.

What are our chances tonight? I don't like them to be honest.

Tonight’s game has got to be better. I fell asleep in the 6th inning last night. At least I won’t have to hear....LETS GO YANKEES! No...can’t take that.

Did I correctly hear the Yankees fans chanting “f*** Altuve” last night?

Did I correctly hear the Yankees fans chanting “feck Altuve” last night? Yep... My wife naively asked me last night why the fans were yelling "Walk Altuve" repeatedly. Didn't have the heart to bust her "mom, apple pie, and chevrolet" bubble impression of the game. Seems NYC is America's toilet bowl of human feces.

What are our chances tonight? I don't like them to be honest. So long as we have the right batters starting, I'm positive about the Astros chances tonight.

Man, you guys. Alvarez is in a horrible slump, for sure, but he can break out of that at any moment and when he does, look out. He has game-changing power and he's not going to be held down forever. He ain't gonna get out of it sitting on the bench. I'm frustrated watching him as well, but I'd pencil his name in every game.

I had those thoughts a few games ago, but he is missing the ball not by inches, but by a foot on some swings. This seems beyond a slump.

And Springer has missed several by a foot or more, too. It won't tick me off or anything if he sits, but of the three options Alvarez is, by far, potentially the most dangerous bat.

In our frustration, we also realize we have no weapons to pull up the slack. Wish this team would get a guru or Jobu, or whoever, fire up some incense sticks, and focus on a mantra to the baseball gods...... Wild Home Run Swing bad.... Hard Contact Good...... Wild Home Run Swing bad...... Hard contact Good......

Maybe Alvarez is tired from his longest season ever. I figured he would struggle but not this bad.

We may lose 10-0, but I still feel good about this game because everyone expects the opposite.

Alvarez is definitely in a horrible slump but we have nobody any better to use as DH. His slump is no worse than Gurriel's. Other than a couple of home runs, we are getting nothing from Correa and Springer. Brantley and Bregman are not driving in runs.

Brantley, Guriel and Bregman are all hitting the ball hard, but there is always a Yankee in the right position to catch or field it. I am surprised with Brantley, with his superior hitting skills, doesn't hit the other way to beat the shift.

They also did this. Yup, saw that. And Buck was rattled a bit afterwards too, like he was lost for words but kept trying to talk.
