Lots of free agents signed 1 and 2-year deals last winter. We maybe approaching a point where players find the QO to be more lucrative

This dude is Luhnow’s idol. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him go after Abreu if he rejects the QO. Then, the transition away from Yuli will be smooth. What makes you think 1. they want to transition away from Yuli, and 2. They'd do it with a guy who is more expensive and nearly as old? Yuli was the best player on this team for a large section of the season this year, but some of you guys are still constantly scanning the horizon for his replacement. It's inexplicable. I like Yuli. I’m just guessing what Luhnow might do because he’s liked him for so long.

I very much doubt they would invest more payroll in another aging 1B right now. And Abreu and the White Sox seem to have a very good mutual like for each other. I would like to see the Astros to go after Zimmerman and/or Kendrick, for a one year deal/with 2nd year team option.....or maybe a two year deal, if they won't do the first.... Still pushing for Correa to get traded, we need to get some prospects....plus trim payroll.

I could see us go after an OFer of some kind with years of control beyond 2020, and I could see us go after a catcher. But no infielders.

Besides wanting a good veteran bat like Zimmerman or Kendrick on a 1 deal with 2nd year team option or 2 year deal, I am for
Signing Betances to a 2 year deal/with team options for year 3 and 4. Extend Joe Smith to a 1 year deal, with second year team option (hopefully less than $4M a year.
Re-signing Chirinos - one year deal with 2 year team option, or if need be, a 2 year deal.
I doubt the Astros are in the running for Cole or Strasburg, but hopefully they are in the running for Wheeler...We need a younger arm signed to a 5 year deal. Wheeler, with his injured past, might be a gamble....
If the don't go for a high ceiling pitcher this year, then next year there are: Bauer (with his attitude, no thank you), Kluber (probably too expensive), Archer (might just need the Stromfather), Desclafani, Minor, Paxton....

OF - maybe Avisail Garcia, two year deal with 3rd year team option? Corey Dickerson, two year deal with 3rd year team option? Hunter Pence, one year deal, with 2nd year option? Trade away Reddick (60 cents on the dollar) and Marisnick

Moving away from Yuli now makes no sense. Do you see him re-signing for the 2021 season? depends on the type of season he has in 2020 and the contract he would want.

I question signing Betances due to his history of injuries. I would try to sign Harris before Joe Smith. I think we definitely should sign Chirinos. Heard Wheeler discussed today and the conversation mentioned velocity and that he could be a "Charlie Morton type" project. Numbers were estimated at 4 years/$72 million or 5 years/$100 million. I don't know that i'd go that high. I would look at Baumgarner. I would see what it would take to sign Will Smith.....we need a good lefty in the pen.

That is barely VD, really not at all, but if it was, we're only talking like HPV, not like HIV level.

I am really not for Harris..He really did have a great 2019 season....but he scares me in big situations.....FTR - if it takes a 3 YR/$30M contract, I am against it.

I like Joe Smith if it doesn't take much to sign him, like 2 year/$8M or less.

Two of the four players I thought were likely to accept did take the offer. Details in the OP.
