To get a feel for what's likely to happen, a starting point would be to look at the attrition through free agency. The following is a list of players from the 2019 team who are now free agents: Joe Smith Gerrit Cole Hector Rondon Collin McHugh Robinson Chirinos Wade Miley Will Harris Martin Maldonado With the exception of two catchers, they're all pitchers. No other positions are affected. imho, the Astros will add: ONE starting pitcher. (maybe) Almost certainly not an ace. At most, a league-average veteran. Verlander and Greinke at the top of the rotation, Urquidy seems to have earned a spot. That leaves two roles to fill. Pick one from McCullers/Peacock/Valdez/Martin/Sanchez/Armenteros/James/Whitley. Maybe two. I'm not certain on a SP purchase. ONE reliever. Some serious money might be spent here. The exit of Harris leaves some pretty big shoes to fill. While the Astros could depend on someone from within the organization to step up, I think they'll pony up for a reliever off the FA market. And I think Harris will be the first guy they target. ONE catcher. It's time for Stubbs to stand up and be counted. But I doubt the Astros will field two catchers who are still in rookie status. Targets aren't limited to either of the exiting FAs. I'm on the fence as to whether we'll see three FAs being purchased or just two. The coin-flip came up heads, so I'll go with three.
(Note: reclamation projects like a player signing to a minors contract with a guarantee only if he makes it to the bigs, don't count. And players who sign for near league-minimum with performance bonuses don't count either.)

My semi-realistic wish to sign 3 of 5: Wheeler, Chirinos, Avisail Garcia, Drew Pomeranz (LH), Dellin Betances

(Tucker, Straw, etc). That's not a good way to maintain long-term competitiveness at a sustainable team salary. These guys need some ML experience so the Astros don't have only rookies when the entire OF goes FA in 2021. I won't say signing Mini-Miggy would be off the table, but I really don't think that's where money should be spent right now unless the Astros can blow a few holes in their outfield roster without taking a bath when trading away someone like Reddick.

As far as the OF goes, there is not much to block coming up from the minors. The Astros will bath if the they trade away Reddick...I think they will get 60 cents on the dollar for him, thus of his $13M to be paid next year, $5.2M will still count against the Astros. But still $7.8M saved can go elsewhere...and we get to finally see Tucker starting.... I see Straw as more as super utility guy and 4th OF, so I don't see a 2 year deal/with 3rd option for Garcia blocking him. I see a Garcia signing a contingency plan for not being able to re-sign Yuli and Brantley in 2021, which I don't see happening. Garcia should be able to split time starting at 1B/OF. If Straw is a super utility guy, then the Astros will not need to offer Diaz arbitration, thus saving money there as well. Now the Garcia signing is also contingent upon the Astros trading away Correa....I think that is one of the most pivotal/paramount moves the Astros can do this off-season....If other teams are sold on Correa's ceiling, then his 2 years of team control should have value....And hopefully the Astros can get both current pitching that is needed and prospects.

It would SUCK to have to listen to Robert Ford or Todd Kalas over-pronounce Av-uh-SIGH-Ale's name all the time. Speaking of offense to the ears ... The Tigers announcers used to call him Av-uh-say-EEL. What's worse, at the same time we also had Ah-KNEE-ball Sanchez. (This is the part where y'all say: You poor bastard!)

I would go for gold trade for trey Mancini to play 1B and some OF.
That way you can move Correa. Yuli to 3rd Bregman to SS.
Then look at SP if you move Carlos Correa. Maybe to the Mets. Try and snag one of there guys Lugo or Snydergaard And some prospects.
Then look at where you are. If you can get Chirinos thats fine. If not go try and see if you can find a package for Wilson Contreras.
Wheeler would be a great snag. Buy low guy in FA

Also, there’s no buying low with Wheeler. So many teams would want him.
