If nothing further comes out, this is what I wish they would say:
"We obviously owe the baseball world and it's fans a number of apologies for what happened. We regret how things have gone, and we feel remorseful for our actions. In 2017 we started using this system because we felt that it was justified based on what we thought our competitors to be doing as well. We believed that others in the league were using similar systems and we felt it was keeping us consistent with the rest of baseball rather than giving us some type of big advantange. We still feel that some organizations in the league are doing things that are beyond the rules. That being said, regardless of what others were, or are, doing, we crossed the line and broke the rules. We should have maintained our integrity despite what we believed was going on. It's too late for us to change the past, but we can make sure that we play with integrity moving forward.
It should be noted that not everybody on our team wanted to utilize this system, and not everybody used it to the same degree. Any stories that have come out trying to pen everything on a handful of people is wrong. While some people may have had a bigger role than others, all of us had the opportunity to stop it, and we should have. We eventually did stop using the system during the 2018 regular season because it became apparent that it was more of a distraction than an advantage. We didn't use any system for the rest of 2018 or 2019, outside of normal methods that are not against the rules.
We know there will be plenty of fans that may never be able to forgive us, and we're not asking for that. We've been a great team for several years now and our goal is to continue to be a great team for our fans and for each other. We hope that most people will be able to move on and recognize that, while we went too far, we didn't intend to hurt the game or damage others' careers.
We'll face upset fans on the road all season and we're prepared for that. We're just here to play baseball now."
