Players return 7/1 and the shortened season starts around the 7/24 if things go well.

From mlbtr:
“Teams will play 40 games against divisional opponents and 20 interleague contests versus geographic counterparts (East v. East, for example), Heyman reports.”
So, our 20 interleague games will be against St. louis, Colorado, Chicago Cubs and Milwaukee?

Dodgers, Giants, D-backs and Rockies.

Dodgers, Giants, D-backs and Rockies. I’m trying to understand how Los Angeles, San Francisco and Arizona are “geographic” counterparts. I could be wrong, but it seems to me that the Dodgers, Giants and D’Backs would be “geographic” counterparts for the Angels and Mariners. The Rangers, Astros, Rockies, Cubs, Royals, Cardinals and Brewers are in the central part of the country geographically.

Ain’t this some bush league bs? From MLBTR:
“Every year features at least some marathon games, but it appears we’ll see far fewer this regular season. Once the 10th inning rolls around (and if games extend beyond then), the hitting team will have a distinct advantage because it will begin the frame with a runner on second. That player will be the one who made the last out in the previous inning, though clubs will be able to select a pinch runner if they wish.”

These new rules are dumb, particularly the one with the runner at second. A fielder could throw the ball away on the first pitch of the inning and lose the game. What a way to “earn a victory”.

Or will this be implemented during the next "full" season?

Is allowing fans at games up to each individual owner? Is there any special rules or plan they have to follow to allow fans in? (i.e. social distancing, 25% capacity, face masks etc)

This is something MLB has been considering for a while now as a way to shorten the games in order to pacify the fans who have a short attention span. This is going to be a crazy season anyhow so I think MLB is using Covid as an excuse to run this idea (and others, i.e. the DH in the NL) out there and see what the reaction of the fans will be. Just my opinion though.

How's this for a trial? Drop the DH and play the games the way it was meant to be played.

It is going to be a joke of a Baseball season, also can you really consider the WS winner truly a champion. The best scenario of this debacle would be to see the Dodgers and Yankees crash.

If we win it, I will consider it a true championship. If NY or La win, I will not. Just going into July, it is really difficult to think of the starting of a Baseball season. Now with the latest news of this virus spiking, it makes you think the brakes will be pumped again. Also looking with the unrest in these major cities, not looking what might be left of this season, but next year who will want to attend a game. Security will be a major issue, I have family in the police family, this defunding of the police mob crowd looks like is not going to die soon.
