Just curious to hear the fugees' opinions regarding the Detroit Tigers' new manager:

Your team's pitching will improve immediately provided the GM is someone who puts a premium on defense

There haven't been many opportunities to see whether or not Al Avila sees defense as a priority. Mostly he's been involved in cutting costs. His predecessor (Dave Dombrowski) certainly didn't. Although there was one instance of a trade for a glove-first shortstop (Jose Iglesias), for the most part the focus was on big bats and strikeout pitchers.
The good news is that except for the most expensive DH in baseball (who's been hitting about league-average lately) there are currently NO contracts. Nine players in various years of arb.
The tigers are likely to pick up a few veterans to add some stability and balance to the team, but I really doubt they'll make any big moves this year. Just some opportunistic purchases from the FA market, after the dust settles. I think the ceiling for the Tigers in 2020 would be a winning season (slightly above .500).
What's your thoughts toward Hinch? Thanks for the memories and good luck going forward? Or 'eff him' and the scandal?

I no longer care if he lives or dies. I guess that's better than hoping he dies in a fire, right?

EDIT: Same goes for players, too. My rare exception for that was Berkman. I was happy to see him not only win a championship but also contribute a good deal to it. Those were the days when I thought that was the only way for Astros to get their rings.

Glad he's getting another chance. I wish him well. I will be keeping up on the Tigers. It will be an interesting story, worth watching. But from what I've read it will be slow to unfold. The target is long-term sustainability rather than a quick return to being a contender. Their focus is on player-development rather than flashy FA purchases and trades for a built-for-now team. I'm sure they won't be approaching the threshold even when they expand the payroll. Probably incorporate some of the concepts used by the Rays and the A's.

Oh yeah, we are practically the same person. To be clear: I am a fan of ONE team. If you're not a player or coach on that one team, I do not care if you live or die.

So you're saying you don't care if the neck is dead or alive ... you still wanna poke it with your tiny green stick. I guess that makes you a Neckrophiliac.

Mets would've been the best fit for AJ. He would've taken them to the playoffs first season there like he did with us He's friends with their GM too so the hire would've made sense

Might have happened if not for Luis Rojas having a contract with the Mets through the end of the 2021 season. Not sure about whether Hinch could have taken them to the playoffs this season though. The they're a bit lean on emerging talent and unless they get very spendy, I don't think they'll be a contender for a few years.
