Bielak didn't get off to a good start at showing improvement.........4 runs and 4 hits in two innings. On a brighter note, Jose is in mid-season form.......already grounded into a DP in his first spring game. LOL LOL

Good to see Straw and Castro go a combined 4-4.

Good to see Straw and Castro go a combined 4-4. Those are two bright spots, especially Straw. If Castro hits, that is a HUGE plus.

I am hoping for him .280/.365/.400 slash line. Which to me, would mean he would have a chance to leadoff. Castro, as his career numbers have shown, I don't see being an offensive weapon. If he has .680+ OPS this year, I think the Astros would take it.

If Straw does that, we should have a fantastic offense and he should be the leadoff hitter. MLB network is televising the Astros-Mets tomorrow at 3:00.

I think even Tucker, Alvarez, Urquidy, Valdez, all fall under this category, but for discussion sake, say they keep producing, how would you rank in importance these younger players having a good 2021: Javier, Straw, Paredes, Whitley, Scrubb, Taylor, Toro And what non-headliner vets are important for the Astros to have a good year (in ranking) Baez, Diaz, Smith, Cishek, Castro, Pruitt

Scubb, Toro. I have little hopes in Toro ever being worth a roster spot. Second group: Baez, Diaz, Castro, Cishek, Pruitt. I won't hold my breath waiting on Pruitt to throw a pitch.

What are the odds that Souza could pull another 2017 out of his a$$?

What are the odds that Souza could pull another 2017 out of his a$$? It is too early to give Click a grade on his work in the off-season, but, I am not the least bit excited over any of the new guys he signed other than Leon. The best thing besides that signing was re-signing Brantley. Castro should be adequate. Other than the possibility of Baez, Click didn't do anything to strengthen the pitching.

Unless you were all set for them to trade players of value, I'm not sure what else you think could have been done without blowing past the luxury tax mark. We're probably fortunate we were even able to get Brantley back. I look at it like this, our team was good enough to go to game 7 of the ALCS last year despite not playing close to their best baseball. Since then, we've improved the bullpen a little and the catching situation, our rotation isn't any worse, our infield isn't any worse, and our OF, while obviously lesser offensively, is likely better defensively. And, if Yordan is healthy enough to DH, our overall offense is certainly no worse than it was last year, and maybe better if we think that Bregman, Correa, Gurriel, and Altuve should all do at least a little better than the crappy year that was 2020. Plus, we have a little wiggle room payroll-wise come the trade deadline, and added a good looking OF prospect. I wouldn't call it a great offseason, but I think it was about as good as we could have hoped for given our current financial constraints and limited farm system.

It is too early to tell if he improved the pen. If Baez does a good job, he did. I won't trust Joe Smith until I see him in several games.

He added two veterans, one with proven success, so the pen is better on paper going into the season than it was by default. It might not end up that way, because you never know how young players will develop or people will stay healthy, but he added better pitchers than we lost.
