Normally when a player is acquired through the Rule-5 draft, they spend most of their time on the bench. Maybe get a few ABs and/or defensive sub in the late innings where the outcome of the game isn't in question. Thus far, it seems Akil Baddoo will see more action than that. In his very first AB, on the very first major league pitch he ever saw, he went yard. In a mere 11 plate appearances he has two dingers, a triple and two singles. His OPS+ is 346. Wow! In a rebuilding season where the ceiling for the Tigers is probably .500 baseball, seeing some potential from players like this (and the development of the young pitchers) gives a Tigers fan some hope for the future.

Great find for my 2nd favorite team. Right now, that's one of the few things that makes following the Tigers fun. Watching players that other teams gave up on, perform well. And watching the rookie pitchers like Casey Mize and Tarik Skubal.

Who do you think will be better between Mize and Skubal? Mize was a first-round #1 overall draft pick. I reckon, long-term he'll have a higher ceiling. Skubal was a ninth-rounder (#255 overall). But he's had a taste of the Bigs, so I would not be surprised if he does better than Mize during this season. But really, who knows? They're both young and represent hope for the future.

I was thinking about shoulder problems with Mize.

I was thinking about shoulder problems with Mize. I'd like to think the shoulder soreness issue last season is in the rearview mirror. But you can never know.
