I think this trend is the result of the three-batter minimum imposed on relief pitchers. Revoke this rule and managers won't need to save their pen arms this way

I don't think we need to increase rules. We're making rules because of new rules.
It's all strategy, so if it's not causing injuries, why regulate everything teams want to do?

Managers should be allowed to use any player to pitch. Do we tell the Angels they can't use Ohtani as a DH/OF and pitch? We don't need more rules....we need to get rid of some we have like the three hitter rule for relievers and starting extra innings with a runner on second base.

I think Bill Brown should shut his pie-hole. Do you disagree that it's a problem, or with his remedy? The latter. If a game has reached the 'hopeless' stage and a manager want to save his pen for a better day, who has the right to say he can't? Seeing batters take BP against position players might be 'not entertaining' but watching the game sputter to it's eventual and predictable end is also 'not entertaining' so who gives a rat?

I agree that with an 11 run lead in the ninth and a 3-0 count, Yermin should have never taken a swing in the first place.

Should he never have taken the swing, or should the other team not have been using a player pitching who was without the ability to pitch in a professional sports contest?
