I don't hold out much hope for the Astros landing any starting position on the All Star team. Fans all over both leagues will black ball our players due to the sign stealing scandal. I understand fans being allowed to select the All Star starters, but, it is entirely too political. Fans don't go by the actual performances of individual players. They vote for the players on their team regardless of whether they deserve the votes or not. Mike Trout leads the voting for AL outfielders and he is on the IL and probably won't get to play even if he wins. For Marcus Semien to be leading Jose at second base is an absolute joke and that is due to the sign-stealing. Bregman is running third behind Devers and Moncada. For Correa to be 4th behind Bogaerts, Bichette, and Anderson is also a joke and caused by the sign stealing. Michael Brantley is 9th in the outfield voting behind some guys who aren't half the player he is. Aaron Judge is second behind the vacationing Angel and that is a joke. Garcia of Texas, Teoscar, and Verdugo all are ahead of Michael. Of course, I'm biased. I think Brantley and Tucker both deserve votes as does our entire infield. I even voted for Maldonado to be the catcher. www.mlb.com/astros/news/2021-all-star-ballot-phase-1-first-standings-update

Unfortunately, I don't think any of our guys will be voted in as starters even if they weren't involved in 2017-2018. Probably for another couple of years even. I also don't expect them to get much support from sportswriters for the other annual awards, deserving or not.
Likely a couple will make it as reserves. I don't expect much. Altuve, Yuli, and Correa are all deserving as reserves at least, but I bet they don't all make it. Tucker, Brantley, and Yordan have outside chances depending on injuries.

I had an epiphany a few years ago, and it led to me not caring about the All-Star vote. It came from watching Derek Jeter get selected year after year after year when he wasn't close to being the best at his position. It's confirmed when Mike Trout is winning the voting while sitting on his couch at home.

This is why I question allowing fans to pick the All Stars. I realize the game is an exhibition game but home field advantage in the WS is determined by the winner unless that is another of Manfred's rule changes.

Where he got into Congress just because of his last name.... The long-standing person before him passed away but he had the same name... And people didn't keep up with current affairs...they just kept voting the name they knew

FIRST BASE
AL
1) Vladimir Guerrero Jr., TOR, 49%
2) Yuli Gurriel, HOU, 10%
3) José Abreu, CWS, 8%
Next up: Jared Walsh, LAA, 6%; Matt Olson, OAK, 4%
One of several Astros who have moved up in the standings since the first ballot update, Gurriel has jumped ahead of last year’s AL MVP, Abreu. Now in third, Abreu holds a lead of roughly 72,000 votes over Walsh.
SECOND BASE
AL
1) Marcus Semien, TOR, 35%
2) Jose Altuve, HOU, 21%
3) DJ LeMahieu, NYY, 9%
Next up: Nick Madrigal, CWS, 7%; David Fletcher, LAA, 6%
There’s been no change to the top three here, and LeMahieu has widened his lead over Madrigal, who will miss the rest of the season after undergoing surgery to repair a torn right hamstring.
THIRD BASE AL
1) Rafael Devers, BOS, 28%
2) Alex Bregman, HOU, 13%
3) Yoán Moncada, CWS, 12%
Next up: José Ramírez, CLE, 9%; Anthony Rendon, LAA, 6%
Bregman was behind Moncada in the first update, but the Astros’ third baseman has moved into second place. Trailing by 95,000 votes, Ramírez has some work to do if he’s going to bump Moncada from the top three.
SHORTSTOP
AL
1) Xander Bogaerts, BOS, 30%
2) Bo Bichette, TOR, 18%
3) Carlos Correa, HOU, 11%
Next up: Tim Anderson, CWS, 10%; Adalberto Mondesi, KC, 6%
The surging Correa has climbed into the top three, moving ahead of Anderson. Fewer than 41,000 votes separate the two shortstops.
OUTFIELD AL
1) Mike Trout, LAA, 14%
2) Aaron Judge, NYY, 10%
3) Byron Buxton, MIN, 7%
4) Adolis García, TEX, 6%
5) Teoscar Hernández, TOR, 5%
6) Michael Brantley, HOU, 4%
7) Randal Grichuk, TOR, 4%
8) Alex Verdugo, BOS, 4%
9) Cedric Mullins, BAL, 4%
Next up: Randy Arozarena, TB, 4%; Kyle Tucker, HOU, 3%
While the top five remains unchanged from last week, Brantley has moved from ninth to sixth, and Mullins has knocked Arozarena out of the top nine. It could be a close race to the finish, as the two are separated by fewer than 8,000 votes.
CATCHER
AL
1) Salvador Perez, KC, 42%
2) Yasmani Grandal, CWS, 10%
3) Martín Maldonado, HOU, 9%
Next up: Christian Vázquez, BOS, 6%; Kurt Suzuki, LAA, 6%
With 1,391,586 votes, Perez is now the No. 2 vote getter in the AL behind Guerrero, the overall MLB leader. The Royals' catcher has surpassed Trout since the last update. Maldonado, meanwhile, has extended his lead over Vazquez to more than 100,000 votes in the race for the No. 3 spot.
DESIGNATED HITTER
1) Shohei Ohtani, LAA, 35%
2) J.D. Martinez, BOS, 16%
3) Yordan Alvarez, HOU, 11%
Next up: Yermín Mercedes, CWS, 7%; Lourdes Gurriel Jr., TOR, 6%
The Ohtani train keeps on rolling. The Angels' two-way phenom has received the fifth-most votes in the AL behind Guerrero, Perez, Trout and Semien. Alvarez is running away with the No. 3 spot at DH, increasing his lead over Mercedes to roughly 130,000 votes.

I don't care if they start or not, but Yuli, Correa, and Altuve should make the team one way or another. And I haven't looked at all of the pitching numbers, but I feel like we should have at least one pitcher make it.

Which will as you say will be a long time coming.

I'm thinking that only one Astro will be selected and that the token player will probably be Pressly.

I think enough people around baseball respect Altuve still and have heard that he wasn't involved so that he'll get on as a reserve if he's still playing well.

I might be wrong with Bud starting fan voting, it might have been Kuhn. I searched teh interwebs and found this: www.mlb.com/glossary/miscellaneous/all-star-ballotSo it looks like it was Kuhn who brought back fan voting. However, Selig and Manfred have made some tweaks to the system.

Fans don't go by the actual performances of individual players. They vote for the players on their team regardless of whether they deserve the votes or not. If that's true, you can blame the lack of Astros on the roster this year on the Astros fans who didn't vote.

Didn't KC fans do the ballot-stuffing thing a few years ago? Yeah, that would have been 2015 and again in 2016. Ballot-stuffing was actually 'legit' at the time. Everyone was allowed to vote 35 times! They made a mockery of it, though. They almost had enough votes for Omar Infante to be in the starting lineup. Not that Omar was a bad player over his career. But by that time, his performance level was seriously in decline.
