The Scene: June 21, 2021 Astros @ Orioles Top of the 4th, Astros ahead 5-0 2-out, no one on base. Jose Altuve batting. Pitches 1 through 3 were obvious balls and they were called balls. (Although, given Angel Hernandez's strikezone, pitch 3 might have gone either way.) Count: 3-0Pitch-4 was obviously a ball. Altuve tosses his bat and gets ready to take off his guards. Angel calls STRIKE. Jose picks up his bat and returns to the batter's box. I may be reading too much into this, but his body-language seemed to indicate disbelief. Count: 3-1Pitch-5 was a ball, but a much closer to being a strike than the previous pitch. Could have easily been called a strike by many umpires. Did Jose think that would be called a ball, because Angel might have realized he was wrong on the previous pitch? idk. *shrug* Count: 3-2Pitch-6 was a strike and Jose fouled it off. Count: 3-2Pitch-7 was obviously a ball. Jose tossed his bat aside, the instant the pitch hit the catcher's mitt ... before Angel even had a chance to make the call. Almost as if to say: "Go ahead and call me out on that junk, dude. I dare you."Altuve strolls down to first.Go Altuve! Go Astros! Oh, and just for good measure, Go Dusty!

Angel needs to be forced to watch replays of his games to see how badly he sucks. He would have been fired long ago if he weren't Hispanic.

Yeah, watching that AB I think he was mad about strike two because strike one shouldn't have been a strike. The fact that Jose got mad at all says quite a bit since he rarely see him get mad at anybody but himself. (And Lance a couple years ago.)

Here's a thought for you all to ponder:
With all the cockamamie ideas MLB has been considering to increase the offense (like moving the pitcher's mound further away from home plate, etc), wouldn't it make more sense for MLB to start by taking Angel (and to a lesser extent a few other umpires) aside and tell them to tighten their absurdly generous strikezones?
Waddaya think?

Nothing worse than to have someone behind the plate and being on the mound and playing mind games on where he is going to call a ball or strike.

Of all the changes that have been suggested recently, I most support electronic strikezone.
