Fell asleep and missed this comeback. Their hitting has kind of done that to me lately. Thank you Mr. Altuve, and may this be the end of your one slump of the year.

Nice comeback by Altuve and the Astros. Pitching staff has only given up 5 runs in the 2 games.
Marisnick gets to stay in California if Fresno is at home.

Figured you might enjoy hearing about the Marsinick Mendozan Magic act being Fresno bound I guess we will find out at some point this afternoon who is replacing him. Any guesses? I would assume Tyler White or JD Davis. Neither really play the outfield, so if they absolutely want an outfielder, then possibly Kemp.

Juat added a poll question along those lines. Wonder what other fans think.

Keep missing those low pitches, Marwin. Mercy... his playing time should be half of what it currently is. Tyler White plays the same defensive positions as Marwin, though not as well; however if we consider White would likely maintain an OPS of at least .800 whereas Marwin is hitting <.650, White's bat more than makes up for what he lacks in defense. White has made 3 errors so far this season (I believe all at 3B) whereas Bregman, by comparison, has 7. Bregman is still the better defender based on range, but White isn't the disaster on the field some people claim.

I was dozing on and off, but awake for the comeback. It was nice. Altuve's double made all the difference. Without it, the Astros would probably have lost 3-2. I was not impressed with how Altuve got himself thrown out at home by trying to advance 2 bases on a simple infield grounder. 1 base, sure, but 2? That's not smart baserunning. 7 hits and 1 walk in the game didn't amount to a whole lot of offense, but it got the job done, even on a day when Cole gave up a couple long balls.

I would assume Tyler White or JD Davis. Neither really play the outfield, so if they absolutely want an outfielder, then possibly Kemp. If the Hinch/Luhnow opt for a guy to plug into Marisnick’s role, then it will be Kemp. He has played 315 innings in LF and 509 innings in CF in his minor league career. He doesn’t have the arm that Marisnick does, but I think he can cover just as much ground in the outfield as Jake. He has stolen 13 bases and only been caught stealing 2 times this season. White is on a 10 game hitting streak in which he is batting .421. He has played a total of 41.2 innings in the outfield in his professional career...all of those innings in LF. He hasn’t played in the outfield at all this season. He is not going to help the team as a base runner. He has attempted to steal one time this season and was thrown out. Davis is batting .407 at AAA, but has slumped to a lowly .390 BA in his last 10 games. He has played 96 innings in the outfield in his professional career...all of those innings in LF and 51 of those innings at AAA this season. He is not going to help the team as a base runner. He has not attempted to steal a base this year. So.., if Hinch/Luhnow is looking to plug a guy into Marisnick’s role, I think Kemp will be called up. If they are looking for a bat, I think it is a tossup between White and Davis.

As always ....the best analysis on the board.

As always ....the best analysis on the board. Thanks tx. I don’t have a problem with any one of those three guys being the one who is called up. One thing working against Kemp...as far as his chances of being the guy called up goes..., is the fact that he is a left handed batter and the Astros already have a left handed batter in Fisher to plug into Jakes role. I think Kemp is a better outfielder than Fisher though. Neither guy has a strong arm, but Kemp takes much better routes to the ball than Fisher does.

So what I am gathering is that you are tending to see a late inning defensive replacement as the "primary role" of this call up? Does all the work at 2nd for Kemp hurt his chances then? Not that he isn't versatile or anything.

I'd be happy with either Davis or White being called up, as both are best against LHP and that means they can alternate with Yuli vs RHP and LHP.
I have a slight preference for White because his BABIP is only around .360 whereas Davis's is over .500. Both are unsustainable over the long term, but Davis's batting avg reflects a tremendous amount of unrepeatable luck.
We've already seen Davis at the MLB level this year, so by giving White a test drive, it allows a more informed decision in September as to who should be on the postseason roster.

Not that he isn't versatile or anything. It is hard to say what Luhnow and Hinch might value most in a replacement for Jake right now. 14 of the Astros next 17 games are against the Indians, the Yankees and the Red Sox. The Yankees and Red Sox are #1 and #2 in runs scored and the Indians are #8. Do we opt for the more potent bat in White or Davis for the sake of added offense in an attempt to score more runs or do we opt for Kemp for the sake of better defense in an effort to contain them? Cleveland, New York and Boston are #1, #3 and #4 in home runs. Kinda hard to defend against a ball that is hit into the stands. Luhnow/Hinch could choose to opt for White or Davis for the potential added offense. I don’t think that Kemp being primarily a second baseman will work against him.

I don't think White has much to do with Marwin. Up til now the chatter has been about White replacing Gattis. If Yuli would step up and hit like he's capable, AJ wouldn't feel the need to start Marwin

If it comes down to Davis or White, I would give the advantage to White. One thing that has been hurting the Astros this season is all the striking out our batters have been doing. In that area White is better than Davis. White is striking out about 1 time every 7 at-bats. Davis is striking out about 1 time every 4.5 at-bats. White has walked more times (27) than he has struck out (19). Davis has walked 11 times and struck out 28 times. White has more home runs (7) than Davis (3).White’s OPS is 1.097 vs Davis OPS of 1.070. White’s AO/GO ratio is 0.42 vs Davis’s 1.14 AO/GO ratio, so it would seem that White would GIDP less often. If it comes down to White or Davis, my money is on White.

The team is really dragging out this decision about who replaces Marisnick on the active roster.
I guess we will know some time in the next 11 hours.

It's no surprise that the team pulled one out when Altuve had a good game. If he succeeds, the rest of the team will succeed.
Looks like he got robbed by Trout earlier in the game too that would likely have led to another run or two.
And don't look now, but now all of our relievers (outside of Sipp and Smith) are 100 or better in ERA+.
