News on an aging star nearing the end of his career might not interest many of you here, so forgive me for this indulgence. At the beginning of the Tigers' current homestand, a tallyboard was added at Comerica Park. Here it is, shown before the game on Thursday July 29: Here it is, later that evening: And even later, the same game: ... and during last night's game:

Miguel hit #499 last night on the road against Baltimore. I feel like Miguel will get #500 next game he plays. Saying that, I would give him off tomorrow and the 2 games in St. Louis this week so he can hit it at home. The team has multiple off days this week.

But I wouldn't be on board with manipulating his days off to such an extreme. And I kinda doubt Miggy would, either. Team first. Miggy needs to play and do what he can toward getting wins. If he puts one in the seats before the Tigers get back home, so be it.

I am just a homer when it comes to milestones for a player. What better way to please your fans than doing it at home? What a treat that would be for the fans!

We can hope Miggy hits a bunch of singles and doubles during the rest of the road trip and brings his hit total a little closer to 3000. (Currently at 2954.) There's an outside chance he might reach that milestone by the end of this season. And hope he gets homer 500 during one of the six games after we get back home. Fingers crossed for a home Homer!

As nice as it would have been to see #500 at home, the solo shot Miggy had in this game was crucial to the eventual win. It tied up the game. Toronto and Detroit traded runs later and this went to extra innings. Both teams scored in the 10th, then the Tigers scored two unanswered runs in the 11th.
Miggy's 500th wasn't a pageant event. It meant something. In my opinion, that's pretty cool.

Too bad he couldn't get it at home, but nice response from the Toronto crowd. Most baseball fans are classy like that. Not sure we'd see it for a Yankees player crossing a milestone at Fenway or a Red Sox player in the Bronx, though.

You're probably right, this year anyway. I think by next season fans will be over it. JMO They won't be over it for years. People are always looking for a reason to bitch and complain. There's a song for people like that.
I turn on the tube and what do I see A whole lotta people cryin' "Don't blame me" They point their crooked little fingers at everybody else Spend all their time feelin' sorry for themselves Victim of this, victim of that Your momma's too thin; your daddy's too fat Get over it Get over it All this whinin' and cryin' and pitchin' a fit Get over it, get over it You say you haven't been the same since you had your little crash But you might feel better if they gave you some cash The more I think about it, Old Billy was right Let's kill all the lawyers, kill 'em tonight You don't want to work; you want to live like a king But the big, bad world doesn't owe you a thing Get over it Get over it If you don't want to play, then you might as well split Get over it, get over it It's like going to confession every time I hear you speak You're makin' the most of your losin' streak Some call it sick, but I call it weak You drag it around like a ball and chain You wallow in the guilt; you wallow in the pain You wave it like a flag, you wear it like a crown Got your mind in the gutter, bringin' everybody down Complain about the present and blame it on the past I'd like to find your inner child and kick its little ass Get over it Get over it All this bitchin' and moanin' and pitchin' a fit Get over it, get over it Get over it Get over it It's gotta stop sometime, so why don't you quit Get over it, get over it Get over it

No additional homers since my last post but more hits for sure. He went 4 for 4 in last night's game.
Current tally Home runs: 502 Hits: 2971
Other numbers RBI: 1795 Doubles: 594 Runs scored: 1503 Walks: 1198
With 21 games left on the schedule, it's possible Miggy will join the 3000 hits club this year.
